Dont wory about your mom she will get over it. Just make sure you have all the stuff you will need to bring your puppy home. Have you found a vet you like yet if not get on it asap the pup will likely need its third set of vaccinations and will require its rabies vaccine at 16 weeks. Do you have a propper collar and lead. Do you have food, food dish water dish. If you plan on crate training you will nedd to have sevral sizes of crates for the groth of the pup. Find a local dog training faculity and enroll in there pupy training class and if you like th results later on you can enroll in there obedince classes. Once your mom sees that your dog is well behaved and is not aggressive she might just turn around and if not you can not spend your hole life with out a dog just to please someone else. My grandmother has a deadly fear of German Shepherds she swore she would never visit when I brought home my first GSD. But she did stop by and when she saw the dog lying on the ground minding its manners she relaxed and secided with time she would love the dog. I now have 4 GSD and she visits when ever she can with no fear of the dog at all. I think your mom will realx once she sees a well behaved animal. Hope this helped. Sincerly Lisa Anderson

Nothing wrong in wanting to get a german sheperd. Some people are afraid of dogs because those dogs were not trained. You can be different and spend some time with your puppy and train it. The first thing I suggest is to buy a crate. it is wonderful for housebreaking the puppy and keeping the puppy out of trouble. I also recommend buying a book on clicker training. It is a great way to train your dog and the really take to it! Good luck. Once your Mom can see your well trained puppy she may change her mind about dogs

First of all, congrats on the new puppy! This is a hard one... I would communicate to your mom how much this means to you and your 3 kids. Ultimately, you have to take a stand to your mom that you are 31 and you have made this decision and you are sticking with it... you don't want to disrespect her... but it is not like it will be in her house, etc.
Tell her that she should come meet the puppy ... when she comes over have the puppy in a crate so it won't scare her with the dog jumping or kissing... that is the only thing I can think of...

Dont worry your mum will come around if she loves you

it will take time get here to know the dog from a distance
make sure its tied up, but being a puppy she may feel more confident

things will work out

Just tell her that when she comes over you can put the dog in the back yard or upstairs on just put up a baby gate and keep him/her in the kitchen. that is a ridiculous reason for her not to come over. and if she really has that big of a problem with it than tell her that you will just visit her from now on. or maybe if she meets it as a puppy and gets to know him/her than she will not be as frightened. she can't control you getting a dog if you live on your own.

Ignore your mum. She'll just have to get over it. As for her making you feel 10...its unfortunate she made you feel that way, but it sounds more to me like she is acting 10 years old throwing a hissy fit. Sounds to me like she is trying to manipulate you into getting her own way. Your kids deserve to have a pet, and this is something you've always wanted. Enjoy your dog, I don't think you will regret your decision.

she is just showing her fear
respect her wishes, and put the dog in another room, while she is there, at least until she gets used to it.
i had people over who were afraid of dogs, i tell them to not to be afraid the dog is very friendly, since the german shepherd is a puppy, it is a perfewct time for to get unafraid, let the puppy sniff her and see her from afar with you standing next to it,that is what i do with those who are afraid of mine, who happens to be part german shepherd, she is so loveable and likes sniffing others to see if they are friendly

she seems like she still wants to control your life...If she won't come over anymore, that is her problem, and she will miss out on seeing her grandkids...after not seeing them for awhile, she might cool down a bit and realize that you are an adult. You can offer to have the dog in a separate room while she visits if she is afraid...
