So, I want to buy a new computer, and I can't decide which one would be most worth the money. S this is what I'm looking at:
Compaq Presario SR2013WM-B Desktop Media Center w/ 2.4GHz AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Processor
OR
eMachines 15.4" LCD Desktop PC w/ 3.2 Ghz Intel Celeron D Processor 352, W3507

Any kind of input will be most appreciated!

My computer was working fine before today. i had this same problem about 7 months ago also.

i had a gigabyte MoBo with a 2.8 p4 a 40 gig and a 80 gig ide hard drives. when i restart my computer it wouldn’t detect my hard drive so it wouldn’t boot up. if i pulled out the ide cables and plugged them back it in would work for a few minuets then crash and restart and the same problem it wouldn’t detect the hard drives. So I ask the IT guy at my work and he said it sounds like my ide controllers are going out. He didn’t tell me how to fix the problem so i decided to replace the mobo.

Today
i have since then replaced my gigabyte mb to a asus and now ia have a 80 gig and a 160 gig sata hd. and i am getting the same problem

any idea what it could be?

I am able to wiggle it and prop the leading end of the cable such that I receive a connection.

It's not the cable itself.

I am looking for a way that will provide a sufficiently permanent fix.

I made a minor mistake of formating the hole 320GB of space on my hard drive during a XP installation. Now I would like to make a new partition and install linux for a dual boot. Whats a good way to go about this with out deleting any data? The only safe way I can think of would be to back up everything and start over.

I am thinking of getting a desktop computer, and though I am more familiar with using a PC, my friend tells me that if she could do it all over again, she would buy a Mac. I'm needing it for basic internet and word and excel type documents.

The ULead DVD player that came with my new DVD player/burner will not play the sound from any DVDs I try to watch through it. I've used some other programs to attempt to watch DVDs, and they all play with sound AND subtitles. No matter what I try, I cannot just watch a movie, have sound, and no subtitles.
Anybody have the same problem? Anybody have a remedy?

Thanks!

I am not sure if I thought it was or actually heard it somewhere but I thought that you could record content from you cable/dish/TV and send it to your pc. Maybe I thought that this was possible because of its hard drive, but I didn't know if anyone knew.

I use one of my computers to play music. I have it connected to a high end stereo system ( Harmon Kardon Citation series amps) I was using a desktop style case that is designed to look nice in a stereo stand, but have had tremendous problems with the system in that case. I just changed the case for a mini-tower with a Codegen 450W power supply. Now I am getting a hum from the Sound Blaster card and from the on-board sound card. These are the same I/F cards that were in the system to begin with. The only different parts are the case and power supply. The P/S must be the responsible item. I am looking for a low electrical noise P/S for this system. Does anyone know of such a beast? I am not concerned with Ambient noise (i.e. what you hear) it's more of an issue of whta interference noise it generates.

Thanks

Hi, my computer which has been limping along in a mostly working state for awhile has finally given up the ghost (it died whilst trying to do a scan). To the point where I can't boot it up from the disk (so I can't get to any of the repair windows or anything) and shows different error messages each time.

My hard drive has been making clicking noises for awhile usually just prior to it crashing so I'm fairly sure it is the root of the problem. My question is, is there any way to test the hard drive so I know it's definitely the problem before I pay for a new one?

I'm wondering if it's really possible to keep music stored forever when it is ripped from a CD to a PC, provided that no virusses or anything like that kill the computer?
