Want a good computer for general internet use, don't need tv tuners or dvd burners, but do want ample memory for music storage and game play

Dell is a bit of a sacrifice in quality for cheap computers. Ebay is the worse place to get a computer.
Best is building it yourself, and if you don't want to do that, a local computer store. If you are wanting the computer for gaming, You probably want a simple AMD system, but with a very good PCI-E graphics card.

Dell or ebay could be good or just search for any pc site and most now offer cheap custom builds.

go to dell.com, and pick a basic configuration under $500. It's easy online selection/purchasing and prices are great, without sacrifice in quality.
