i want to buy a new computer, but i want a good processor--dual core, that will run very well when i upgrade to windows vista
I face a couple of options-- Pentium D, Intel Core 2 Duo, Athlon 64 X2, and the new multi core processors from AMD&Intel coming out in 2007
I need a computer that can be future proof for 3 years at least, equal, similar, or better than the specs of the HP m7490
The thing is, im trying to get a good dual core processor thats up to date...seeing that core 2 duo uses 40% less energy and is 40% better in performance--i like that
The core 2 duo is my top choice, but I want it ASAP in hp or some good manufacterer w/ specs comparable to the hp m7490-- im very confused on when those will hit shelfs at best buy or net
so, which processor should i get? i need a processor that has performance similar to pentium d 930 or 940
I also need it to not cost too much

on the side note, does anyone know the prices for each edition of vista upgrade?

I just bought a new hp printer, fax, copier all in one and when I tried to install it, my CD drawer will not come open by itself and can force it open but it still will not read the CD. Is there anything I can do other than buy a new computer. Everything else on the computer works fine.

My win98 ( i am still running it because I use an industrial software that won't run on newer OS) often goes to standby mode while I am away. But if I am away too long it will be dead then I have to reboot the whole system. What should I do with this problem?

I have an Alienware Area-51 that I bought a little over a year ago with all the standard equipment. Nothing unusual. But when ever I use a graphics intensive program (games, 3-D apps, etc.) my computer beeps constantly. This is a system beep, not thru the speakers.

I'm sure it's a 1. Heat Warning 2. Power Warning 3. Who knows what. But I run all the diagonstics and everything is within the safe indicators.

I'd just like to turn it off cause it's a little bit annoying!

Thanks.

this picture was probably downloaded from the grandkids using the cpu, or taken off one of their games. we are using a HP Pavilion mx70, we bought used and no books came with it. we are able to change the screen saver picture to different pictures, but we are not able to figure out how to get rid of this picture. if we click on the side of the picture we can drag it to the side and the picture apprears to be narrower, but nothing we have attempted will remove it.

Is this possible? Are any kinds of software needed? All data includes all system utilities and files and operating system. Reason being i was thinking of purchasing a new high-performance hard drive to replace my current one.

I have a minidisc, and wish to extract the files stored on it. However, the only drive I have to work with is a CD drive.

Can it read the minidisc, or do I need another kind of drive?

And if it can read it, is there any particular method of reading the information I need to know about?

LapTop: F8 gets me into a Screen where "Safe Mode", "Last Good Configuration .." choices are present, but when clicked, I get a blanc screen.
Windows Logo appears, then the message: "Windows is preparing to start...."
Then again a I get a blanc screen.
I did hook up this HD to another PC and I can access most of it except for Desktop\Documents and Settings\Folders... (Access Denied) - because I've set a User Password when Loging in Windows XP. Is there anyway around that?

Is there any software to be Installed on the second computer and Check, Recover, Fix Registry on my Laptop (hooked up HD)?

I have made a bootable CD and Downloaded Knoppix.Iso on it, then I get the image of my Desktop in Linux, but just in a Read-only mode.
How do I copy those Folders from the HD\Desktop\Documents and Settings?

I have an old e-machine that I've been using for word processing. It worked fine up until recently.
One day I turned it on and the machine was running but nothing appeared on the moniter. I tried hooking it up to three different moniters and I assumed the memory was shot. I left it alone for a week in my closet and I decided to try running it one more time and it worked.
After that it worked fine for about two weeks and now it is doing the same thing. I don't know whats wrong with my computer.

I was working on my Windows XP professional & all of a sudden there came a blue screen with a message that some harware is not installed properly,etc(i.e. Blue Screen Of Death). I tried to restart my PC (P-III) but CTRL+ALT+DEL was not working. Then I tried to open my PC with my other Window i.e. 98. It worked only for once but afterwords stopped working & was asking for system registry. Even I was unable to format PC. I had changed my hard disk & detached all hardwares but again same message was coming at the time of installation of XP. 98 were installed but graphics were a big problem in 98 as well. In today's date I have withdrawn everything from my PC be it is USB Card or Ethernet Cards. Cross Checked & reinstalled my RAM(128), & have even showed my PC to several Hardware engineers but now also I am recieving same problem while installing Window XP. Please help me!
