I have an old e-machine that I've been using for word processing. It worked fine up until recently.
One day I turned it on and the machine was running but nothing appeared on the moniter. I tried hooking it up to three different moniters and I assumed the memory was shot. I left it alone for a week in my closet and I decided to try running it one more time and it worked.
After that it worked fine for about two weeks and now it is doing the same thing. I don't know whats wrong with my computer.

I know this might sound strange but I had a similar problem with a relatively new laptop. It passed all the diagnostic scans but the screen would sometimes just go blank for no apparent reason.

Finally had to return it to the manufacturer. They found out the motherboard had a hard-wire problem. They claimed the actual connection would expand or contract depending on the operating temperature of the unit. Sometimes it made contact, sometimes it didn't. They replaced the motherboard and it's been working fine.

Perhaps you also have a bad connection and it only makes itself apparent at certain times.

Most likely it the power supply. If it was the video card it would not have worked once the card became defective. This is also true for the mother board and the other cards in the PC. The power supple is the only thing in the pc could make your pc run one day and not run the next but 2 weeks later run again. Replace the power supply. or better yet buy a new PC, the e-machines are the yugo of computers.

I had the same problem with my PC,. It turned out to be a problem with one of the XP fixes that I had downloaded from Microsoft and I believe a virus can also do the same. So frustrating and annoying. eventually I had to reformat the hard drive and install new programs and its been fine since (my PC was only a year old). There are some small fixes for the problem on the Microsoft site which you can download and try before reformatting.

It could be overheating. Get a can of air and blow out all of the vents. Open the computer case, check for dirt build-up on any fan blades, spray the dirt off the blades with the can of air. Be sure to check the power supply unit also, spray the blades of that as well. You might want to also check that all the fans are actually working, if some aren't, they may just need to be oiled, or, replaced.

Your problem could be a bad video card. Computers pretty much suck hehe. I know alot about them but am not the type that can build one or take it apart and fix it. But like I said it could be the video card or the monitor itself!
