I just bought a new hp printer, fax, copier all in one and when I tried to install it, my CD drawer will not come open by itself and can force it open but it still will not read the CD. Is there anything I can do other than buy a new computer. Everything else on the computer works fine.

This is a common problem with people that "push" the CD drawer shut with their hand in stead of closing it with the button or via the computer. This causes a so called "over run" on the gear train. You can try the little hole to release the drawer or you may have to take it out, take the top off and re-seat the basket on the gear train.

How long have you had your DELL? IT could be that your CD drive might be malfunctioning or it is about to die or already dead. IF it's still under warranty, contact DELL tech support or customer service. Otherwise, you can replace the CD drive itself. No need to buy a new computer.

If your CD drive won't work, you can replace it. If you are still under warrenty, contact Dell or your retailer to see what the best course of action is. If you are out of warrenty, just go to any office store or online (I like http://www.tigerdirect.com) and purchase a new optical drive (CD or DVD). There will be instruction inside on how to install, or just post another question here! Good luck.

How old is the computer? If it's still under warranty you can send it in and get it fixed.

Also, it might just be the physical button.
Open My Computer, right click the drive, and click "Eject".
