A few weeks back my computer crashed, did a system check on my drives and then told me one of my internal hard drives could not be found (or the RAID wasn't working - I'm not entirely sure on those details). I finally got it working using an Intel Utility on my computer. Since then, the drive in my computer has been making a sound. The best way I can describe it is if you imagine the whirring sound a hard drive or a CD drive starting up - it continually sounds like it is speeding up then slowing down then speeding up etc. I would like to know if this is normal or if, for some reason, the drive is failing and being worked to hard since the crash and needs to be replaces. Thanks!

I recentlty dropped one of my harddrives and now it doesn't work. When I try to power it up all it does is play a sound like a little warning tune (which I didn't know harddrives could do) then grinds for a few seconds. I've had the cover off and the grinding appears to be the arm trying to move but not getting very far. Is there any way I can reset the arm? I'm fairly certain the actual discs aren't damaged. Can I take the discs out and put them in another harddrive? This was my backup drive and has about 200gig of data I could really do without losing.

I wish to install another OS onto my computer, but keep this one. I have an extra hard drive, and can NOT reformat my master (due to certain reasons I do not wish to discuss). I want to be able to choose at start up which OS to boot, how can I install an OS into my slave and do this?

How much would it cost to build the absolute cheapest computer for internet and email? I'd just use open source software... but I don't know what computer parts to get and where (without having to pay a lot for shipping).

I have a Compaq/HP Presario 1800NX. I have clean formated it, and have installed all of the drivers for everything. I have disabled my integrated video card in the Bios and Windows. So what gives? It uses 150mbs of ram sitting. I have gone into MSCONFIG, and turned stuff off there to. It has had a completely clean XP Pro on it, and has very few programs on it. Is this normal for Compaqs and HP's. I have had this question forever. I thought it was the integrated video card, but its disabled.
I am confused.

i was using an emachines computer with windows 98 SE, before i got a new computer, and I wanted to know the possiblility of retriving files off the desktop. I have important family photos and music files i would like to save from the desktop. I was told by a friend who knows about computers that the motherboard no longer works...does this mean that my desktop files are non-retrievable? HELP...i need second and third opinions on this question.

Specifically choosing between:

(1) http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?c=1&oid=170744&carriage=3244

and the underlying PC in this package:

(2) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=999969900050013&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat103700050050&id=pcmprd69800050013

They are the same price at my local retailer. So everything is the same except the processor (1 GB memory, 320 GB hard drive, etc.).

In terms of use, I don't do much graphical gaming but I do multi task a lot (although with simple applications, eg / Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Firefox, etc. all open at once). Need to decide ASAP so thanks for your thoughts!!!

My sister recently bought a Dell computer. the computer has Windows Vista. Most times when it is restarted or shut down and then turned back on, Vista will look like it is loading, the little windows vista symbol will come up but then it will hang at a black screen. I have ran all of Dells onboard diagnostic tests, as well as trying start up repair from a vista boot disc - neither tactic yielded results. In fact all the tests said no problems were present. If I manually shut off the comp and restart it a couple times it ends up working and I dont have any other problems. obviously though this isn't a great way to do things. Any help would be appreciated

Recommended is a 400 watt with a +12v rail at 30 amps, but on Dell forums I heard that my psu has successfully run an 8800gts, but will this limit performance of the card?
