I have a custom build PC, about 9 fans inside, custom parts etc etc. Is it bad to keep it running over night? No programs, just on. I heard it was bad to turn it off because PC's need to be kept at a constant state of temp. Thanks.

I am wanting to re format my computer. I have a gateway gt5404 and I have windows vista home premium.

When i re install windows it always saves my files from my previous version of windows and stores them on my new installation even when I tell it to wipe the entire disk (not upgrade)

How can I reformat my computer so that it does not save anything.

I tried clicking on it under "computer" then clicking format but it wont let me because its the one that has windows on it.

Please tell me as simple as you can so that I can understand. Thanks.

I was reading about my computer and found this article.
"Best machine for the money. I formated the hard drive (got rid of Gateway's software) and installed updated drivers when I received the computer, improved perfromance A LOT. Excellent Gaming Machine) "
I was wondering what does it mean by formatting the hard drive, how do i do it, and would it delete all of the stuff on my hard drive?

My old pc has 1 hard drive which of course has the os and other information on it, I have already taken my old hard drive out and the ribbon cable as well but now im finding it difficult to change the jumper setting to slave as its quite small to take out the plastic thing, also how do i connect my old hard drive to my new pc power supply and the motherboard?

Using my old computer is not an option as there was a problem with the os saying 'corrupt windows system32' so thats why i had to take out the old hard drive and didnt reinstall the os due to losing data. I got the ribbon cable that connects to the hard drive and motherboard so now how do i connect it as a second hard drive on my new Pc.

My old hard drive is a 'Segate ATA U Series 7 80 Gbytes ' and my new pc motherboard is a 'ASUS P5N32-E SLI' is there anyway at all to connect the old hard drive to the new pc and how?
I need detailed instructions on this please if you can and any ideas would help. thanks

I have always had a PC - usually a Dell. I like Dell, but learned recently that viruses are much less abundant for macs. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of owning a mac? I'm considering buying a new computer soon, and need to know!

I want to buy a new computer to be able to play MS Flight Simulator X. I was looking at the new HP m8000n, Athlon 64 X2 5200+, 2gig memory, 500g HD and combined that with 7600gt or ati x1900pro. Is this a great thing or would you recommend something else?

My computer is running insanely slow (like 5-7 minutes to start up). I thought it could be a virus, but none of the programs I've used (I've tred like 8) have found a virus. I think I need to reformat it but my computer (HP Windows XP media center edition) didn't come with a disk...just system restore points which didn't work.

Is there any way i can download a version from microsoft or something to reformat it? Or does anyone know of a REALLY good virus program that might actually find my virus?

I currently have a NVIDIA 128 MB GDDR3 6600 GPU and am looking at getting a NVIDIA 512 MB GDDR3 GEForce 7950 GT card. I'm wondering how much of an effect the graphics card has on video editing. Most of these cards are most for fast FPS for games, which is not what I need. Thanks.

I have a 70 gb hard drive and before vista, i had 54 gb left. now I only have 38.2 gbs left, thanks to vista. I have been looking for some good hard drives and found a good sized one. Is it okay to replace the old one with a new internal one for drive C or is the only option to use an external one? thanks

In Win XP, in the Screensaver option, under the Power option. They allow you to turn off your monitor and hard disk after a period of time. I wonder how is it different from the standby mode? I have tried setting the hard disk to be turned off after a period and downloading still can resume. Let say if you are downloading a file from a website.

I also read from wikipedia that turning off the LCD monitor instead of putting it into screensaver could prolong the life of the LCD. Is it true?

I have an additional 12V fan cooling the bottom part of my hard disk circuit board but I don't know if I am doing the right thing, because hard disk could get quite hot. Or should I place it to cool the motherboard or the ram? CPU and graphic card has its own fan.

I also realised that the top metal surface of the hard disk is used for emitting heat if I am not wrong? Should my fan cool it there instead?
