I am wanting to re format my computer. I have a gateway gt5404 and I have windows vista home premium.

When i re install windows it always saves my files from my previous version of windows and stores them on my new installation even when I tell it to wipe the entire disk (not upgrade)

How can I reformat my computer so that it does not save anything.

I tried clicking on it under "computer" then clicking format but it wont let me because its the one that has windows on it.

Please tell me as simple as you can so that I can understand. Thanks.

Choose "Advanced" when prompted for the installation type by the Vista installation DVD ... that will give you the necessary option.

You can download a free utility called Nuke Disk good for one use at a time. This little software will save to a floppy and do a serious wipe on the hard drive and clean it like you got it from the factory itself. Good luck
