I have a 70 gb hard drive and before vista, i had 54 gb left. now I only have 38.2 gbs left, thanks to vista. I have been looking for some good hard drives and found a good sized one. Is it okay to replace the old one with a new internal one for drive C or is the only option to use an external one? thanks

If you replace the drive with Vista on it ....logically you will need to re-install Vista on the new drive.

Why not install the second drive internally as a slave ?
That would save you the pain of re-installing Vista & give you more total storage.

Do you only have 38GB left because you partitioned the drive? Also no need to replace the HD. You can have two HDs. Just change the boot order to your new one and you can keep the old one to back up files. Also did you upgrade from XP, if you just did a clean install, you can keep XP and Vista on a single HD but in separate partitions.
