bought wind xp new 7 yrs ago.Can i remove anything? like updates,how long should they be kept? thanks

I believe you are refering to the blue colored sub directories in Windows.
Many can be safely deleted, however, I must warn you that deleting the wrong ones may make Windows unstable.

They don't use all that must space & if I were you I would just leave them alone.

I would recommend not removing any system files. Some updates are dependent on other updates already being installed. If you remove the old updates, the new ones may not function.

If you are talking about the setup files for the updates, you can dump them.
As it is earlier updates are all incorporated into the rollup packages onine now.

If you are looking at your Add/Remove programs, leave them alone.

you should never delete your updated. If you are running out of drive then you should compact them and run you defrag.
