Whenever I turn on my desktop, it says that there is a problem and that it can't get into windows. It is a black screen with options like safemode and start with settings that worked best etc. I've tried every one of them and it still will not start windows. It just beeps and starts the whole process over again. We've had the computer for a while and shortly before it did this is was telling me that it was low on memory space on the "c" drive. I tried to free up space but a few days later it started with this. Please tell me what I can do!!!!!

I have a new CD-RW drive I just installed and it works great. The question I have does not apply to my computer since it is set up for cable select however I am curious. On the back of the drive between the IDE and the audio connector is another connector. It has a plastic cover you use to go over either the master, slave, or cable select. My question is what does it matter what it is set on as nothing connects to it. The only thing I can think of is it is for a jumper connector to another drive if you have one which I do not. Am I on the right track here or is it something different ?

Emachines is cheap, but I'm a bit weary about it.
Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of PC brands (and is there really much difference)?
(I use my comp for internet, photos, music, some radio and some graphics/ would like to add movies)

all these dual CPU's now.. do they just double the power? like if you had a 1 Ghz times 2, does that mean you have 2 Ghz power? are they better than getting a fast single CPU? specifically i'm referring to games.

A friend's computer turned off one night when they were sleeping and would not come back on in the morning. I looked at it and saw it wasn't getting any power so I changed the powersupply. Everything seemed to get power at that point (all the fans were working and the light on the motherboard was lit up). Unfortunately, when I plugged in the monitor it said it was not recieving a signal. I checked the monitor and video card on a different computer and both work correctly. I reset bios using the jumpers and that had no effect. There is also an on board video card which is also not working (although I'm not sure if you have to make some changes within the computer to make it read the on board video card). What could the problem be? I figure it's most likely the mother board or processor. Is there anyway to test this? (btw, I don't hear any beeps when computer starts).

My main computer (P4 3.2ghz) is used for long periods during working hours and evening, and left switched on 24/7.

Its just rebooted once every few days to freshen up.

Monitor is set to go to sleep/standby after 25 minutes of inactivity.

Would anyone have a educated guesstimate on how much money in electricity it might be costing to keep a pc switched on all year ?

I just bought a HP DX5150 system recently. I planning to upgrade ram and graphic card on the cpu, so I open up the cpu and check. I discovered the hp psu is running at 250w, which seems to be very low. I heard that hp hardware consume low power and i cant find a suitable psu to fit the cpu chassis. So do u think i should change to a higher psu as i m going to do upgrades in the future?

I want to make a bootable CD-R for my G4 Mac running OS X 10.4.8. On the disk, I'd like to put suitable repair applications. How do you make a CD-R bootable and what apps. would you recommend besides Disk Utility and DiskWarrior? I stepped on and broke my bootable CDs for those.
