FYI, the .lnk means it's supposed to be an internet link. You actually probably still have all the files on your PC under their other extension but for some reason that only the people who actually build and program PC's truly know, I've had this happen to me several times. Usually under Documents & the folder which is specific to my name on the PC (I'm the only one who ever uses it but you still have the all users and the default users) so not remembering which folder keeps the original extensions and which one stores the .lnk maybe look there.
Also, I LOVE using DOS personally, if you know it, go there!!! It is oh so very easy!!! You can find all your original file names with their original extensions.
Or as someone else suggested, system restore....for some reason my PC just doesn't ever restore to a point prior to wherever whatever it is I finally notice then try to restore the PC to a time prior.
And you did notice of course that I blamed everything on the PC? When I stated that MY PC just won't restore to where I wish....!!!!
It is totally inanimate and most certainly to blame!!

Determine when you realized this problem. e.g. today, yesterday, etc.
Use system restore to take your computer back before you picked up this problem (probably a virus).
Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select a date before you realized the problem and then click on "restore".
This should get rid of your problem. Just think about what you've downloaded and don't go back and get it again except for reputable sites.
Hope this helps.

Regardless you may upload document Extensions, assuming you bear in ideas which application and might see extensions. To open them open and folder. approaches>Folder strategies>document-varieties Then upload from there.

Panic, run in circles, yell, scream, cuss, throw your computer out the window and go get a new one. Honestly, sounds like a major infection, Start in safe mode, try doing a system restore, and if it will come up run your scans IMMEDIATELY.
