Only two things in your computer spin, drives and fans. Fans are the most common failure, and if they stop moving enough air can result in catastrophic failure of the system. I had a video card that burned up and fried the motherboard because the fan quit turning.

The only way to find out for sure is open the machine and listen around to see what's making the noise. If you can't tell just by opening the system up I'd power it off, disconnect power to the hard drives and power it back on to see if the noise continues.

In any case, I'd check it out quick. Noisy drives are failing drives and grinding fans don't move air.

Defraging wont do anything.

Open up your syste and see where the sound is coming from. It has to be coming from a moving part, so the choices are a harddrive, fan, or powersupply. Find out where the sound is coming from and you will know whatto replace.

If it is the harddrive, back it up.

If it is the powersupply, replace it.

If it is anotherfan, keep your computer off until it is replaced.

Hi. Unusual sounds NEVER mean anything good. Backup everything first, like NOW, and then look at replacing things like fans and your harddrive.

Yes i think its your hard drive, and you might want to defrag your disk immediately... or you might want to look into investing into a good fan because it might be your fan making that chirping noise

Yeah it's probably your hard drive. Try running Disk Defragmenter.
