When destroying a hard drive by means of a hammer is it necessary to open the hard drive up completely with the silver discs exposed or can I leave it inside the casing then smash it and have the same results?

I have a Maxtor 3.5 hard drive running Win XP. This is running fine, but I need to format the original WD400 drive that came with my PC ( HP Pavillion a219.uk ). I have the 6 reset discs but they won't work on the WD400, when only that is connected. I've set my CD drive as the first bootable device, no luck. Do I need an 'fdisk' floppy? I don't know much about that. Is there a downloadable program that could help me and if so what web-site? Thanks for any help :-)

Will the standard apple imac intel core duo.(the one with the 20inch screen and costs £999) be sufficient to run apple motion 2.1

I need some1 who knows more about the technical aspect of these computers to let me know if i was to buy this computer if the standard graphics card and processor would be sufficient to run this Apple Motion program smoothly.

Thanks in advance

My hard drive isn't full full full, I add to and delete from it on a regular basis, I defrag and run disc cleanup. It just seems my machine doesn't keep up the way it used to.

Am I competing with more powerful machines, presumably bought since mine?

To give you some examples, it takes my computer about 10 minutes to go from OFF to ready for use, including starting Windows and putting everything on my desktop, configuring my printer, and all that startup stuff.

It takes about 1 minute to load a webpage I have never visited before. Presumably the cookies help me find it faster after that.

I can't play some video games, and these are not massive role player games, just simple online games (java, flash, or shockwave) or downloads that I got from RealArcade. It seems if I stay within the smaller files, under 50MB I do okay. But it stalls during graphic intensive parts like a battle or loading screen to screen.

I don't run a lot at once, either.

Earlier this evening, I attempted to run disk defragmenter since my computer appeared to be running slow. My computer couldn't run diskdefragmenter, however, due to a problem with QTfont.qfn. In order to take care of the problem, I went ahead to delete QTfont.qfn. I also had to try to get rid of QTF.for and a prefetch file. However, even after deleting all of these disk defragmenter won't work because the files won't properly delete. They are still stuck in the Recycle bin. It still shows completely empty even after I put on show hidden files and everything, but I repeatedly click on empty recycle bin. It asks me whether I want to remove the files and I click okay, but my recycle bin still has those three items but I can't find them and can't seem to delete them. Any ideas or solutions if anybody has encountered a problem like this before or know somebody who has?

If not, I've heard that non-conductive/non-corrosive liquids exist that I can hypothetically immerse a computer in to keep it cool. Is this even possible?

If not, then what is the maximum, safe time limit you could leave your desktop on? Please also include the conditions (like below 70 F or not)

My sisters computer turns on, but when it reaches the windows xp loading screen it completely freezes, and you need to restart the computer. I'm thinking about just restarting the whole computer and erasing everything. How do I clear the whole computer and start out fresh again?

***I do realize that technology will change by the time I decide to purchase.***

I have decided to purchase a new computer (between spring '07 and fall '07) and now I am looking for some info to help me make a few decisions.

1. What type of processor is better?

I will be buying a Dell and now, I have the choice of an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6400 or an AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor. There may be more choices in a few months, but which out of these two are better? And by better, I mean performance wise. I don't care about the name/brand...I just want something that is going to give me the best performance for my money.

2. I also need a CD/DVD drive that will read and write both CD's and DVD's.

Will a 48x CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive allow me to read and write both CD's and DVD's? If so, is that better than having a 16x DVD+/-RW Drive? (I know that the 16x DVD+/-RW Drive will allow me to read and write both CD's and DVD's.)

Thank you for all of your help!

I've had a SOYO MOBO (SY-P41875P DRAGON 2 v1.0). for 2 years and had no problems until today. The pc was working fine when suddenly turned off by itself. When I press the on/off button, it won't do anything. I was checking all the cables from the PSU and noticed this: when I leave the 12v 4 pin power supply cable unplugged, the PSU starts (with no video), but if I plugged it back, it won't start at all.
Thanks in advance.

My Dell computer has a "copy" of windows xp sp2 currently installed on it, but I seem to find myself needing to download a registered version of xp for MY computer . The question is... I know someone who also has a Dell that came with an xp start up disc. Can I use that disc to reinstall xp on my pc, or is that disc specific to his computer?

i recently just checked on newegg.com and all the intel-compatiable mobo dont really say either nVidia or ATi chipset, rather they have some northbridge and southbridge. does that mean those mobo got the on-board video cards on them? and i can use EITHER one? nVidia AND ATi? cuz im sure that wit AMD compatiable mobo, u gotta go wit either nVidia or ATi. u cant swing both way.
my specs: 3200+ amd, a8n5x mobo, 512 mb, XFX 6800 XT video card.
Im thinking of buying a 4800 amd, and some crucial 1gb and keep the mobo and the video card.
but the back of my mind thinking core2duo e6400 would be faster but iono wat's the best mobo out there for the core2duo.
the only difference between the update would be around 150 for the mobo, other wise amd 4600 and e6400 run the same price. Does any1 have any suggestion?? thank you for reading

Is there any issues of compatibility upgrading from Intel Chipset 845GE to VIA PT880 Pro without reinstalling the windows ?
