I have had this problem and yeah it is annoying. My problem was that the fan was wearing out. So try replacing the fan.

It could possibly be a cooling fan going bad. Take a look inside you computer without touching anything and check your fans out, see if any are slow or not moving at all. Especially check the fan on the CPU because if it's going bad, shut your PC off and start looking for a new CPU fan. If you don't want to open your computer have someone who knows computers look at it like a professional. Most likely it's just a case fan that is acting up. But you never know. Another thing, is it humming really loud when your loading a game or some other large file? If so, your hard drive might be the culprit. If not, your hard drive might be going bad too. I would have it checked out when you can. I haven't had a problem with my hard drives but when they go bad they might last another year, or they may go bad in the next hour, they are tricky. Most likely tho it's a fan.

sometimes mine does that, too. It usually happens when I put in a CD, start up a program, or initiate something involving a little more effort. I think it's mostly becase you're kicking it into gear, and it speeds up to acomplish the task you've set before it. I don't think it's a problem, though.
