of course memory would increase speed, but it was running okay until I downloaded this virus scan. It was still fine for a few days but then just bottomed out. I don't have a lot of music of images, and I tried deleting out like a kids program that downloaded from D drive, but it says there's not enough room to delete it from 'add/delete' programs, which doesn't have many things. I just wondered what suddenly hogged all my disk space and drug my computer down-any ideas? thanks for your time and answers

When you click your mouse button on your desktop, you can make a blank box but once you let go, it goes away. Whats the purpose of it? You cant really do anything with it. Ive always wondered this.

I purchased a used computer. I'm starting to regret it. It is requesting an administrator password for updates. The previous owner did not supply me with one ( I have sent them an email requesting it). I also have no web browser at all. Is there anyway to install a browser without one. It also didn't come with the CD's most computers come with. But I knew that when I bought it.
Help!!!

It does not matter what website I am going to, it is completely random. When the computer restarts it makes a loud vibrating, buzzing noise coming from inside the tower. Once the computer gets to the windows login screen the noise and vibration sound stops. What could be causing this to happen?

I am going to build a new computer, this one is not VISTA compatible. I decided to get some good speakers. Trouble is most places have very few you can listen to before you buy.

When I turn on my computer, my monitor won't show anything. Both the power lights and the "busy" lights are on, and if I connect the CD drive, its light is on also. I've asked this question before, and they said it was the video card, but it is integrated into the motherboard. What should I do? BTW, I have duplicates of most of the parts.

Sometimes, instead of windows loading, it just goes to a blank gray screen with a white flashing cursor in the upper left corner. Other times it has no problems at all loading. What is wrong with it and how can I get it fixed?

Ok --

My windows xp dell system will not start up because something randomly happened to "hal.dll" -- i get an error when trying to start the computer, it says that hal.dll is missing or corrupt. I have tried those things that are suggested when you google "hal.dll" so please dont try to research for me..
What i want to do, is put the master hard drive with windows xp home for my Other computer into my broken one -- the only problem is, the hard drive for my new computer has a diferent cable that connects to the hard drive -- its not the ribbon cables, its something newer. I do have ribbon cable sockets though, my DVD drive uses one.
Can i plug the hard drive from the old computer with an operating system on it into the ribbon cable socket in my new computer, and have my computer boot from that?

Or will that just be bad because the old computer has lots of diferent hardware that the operating system from the old computer would not know what is going on and stuff. thanks

I start my computer and it goes through the normal boot settings then the screen comes up with the options of Safe mode, last known good configuration and start windows normally. Ive tried all the options several times but once it gets to the Windows XP screen with the status bar, it will restart. And it will eventually lead back to the boot screen with all the options again. Can anyone help me, thanks in advance

I have two computers, both are rather old, but one is older'
The newer one is a dell dimension desktop and another is an hp desktop that I bought 7 years ago.

The desktop has only a dvd-r/cd-r and the hp has a cd-rw, I was wondering if it would be possible to take the cd-rw from the hp and put it in the dell into the second slot.

Would they be compatible? What would I have to do to make it work?

I was planning to get myself a P5B motherboard for overclocking E6400. However, I found that that mobo has some problems with supporting RAID. The problem is that I don't really know what RAID is and never used it before. All I know it has something to do with connecting harddrives. So, question 1: What the heck is RAID in the first place, and how is it used? Online descriptions weren't very helpful. Question 2: If I'm planning to use several SATA harddrives with P5B, one of 80Gb, one of 250Gb, and one of 320Gb, each partitioned in 2 smaller drives, will it be affected in any way by board's problems with the RAID controller, or is RAID something that I must activate by myself, or use some additional hardware for it? Or, maybe, I can live without it?
Please answer all questions as objective as possible. Thank you for your time.
