I do not know how to get the desktop back to normal.

It happened to me it went back to normal after some time and it flashes two every now and then if it's not freezing your computer then ignore it or try deleting the doubles

My guess is that you were sloppy when you right clicked and instead of clicking on delete, you clicked on the one above it---create short cut.

u prolly made a shortcut or copied them by accident, if they open up the same thing delete one of them
