I have a Maxtor 3.5 hard drive running Win XP. This is running fine, but I need to format the original WD400 drive that came with my PC ( HP Pavillion a219.uk ). I have the 6 reset discs but they won't work on the WD400, when only that is connected. I've set my CD drive as the first bootable device, no luck. Do I need an 'fdisk' floppy? I don't know much about that. Is there a downloadable program that could help me and if so what web-site? Thanks for any help :-)

Go to Control Panel>Administrative tools>Computer Management and then select Disk Management. On the right panel right-click on the disk you want to format and choose format. Follow the steps (choose quick format)... You can additionally right-click "delete partition", then choose "create new partition" always using quick format.
