Emachines is cheap, but I'm a bit weary about it.
Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of PC brands (and is there really much difference)?
(I use my comp for internet, photos, music, some radio and some graphics/ would like to add movies)

If you ask one hundred people what brand to buy, you will probably get one hundred different answers. I have been building and selling PC's for over ten years and the best advice I can give you is firstly DONT TOUCH EMACHINES. They are cheaply built, unreliable and as another answer here says, you will be sorely disappointed. I personally would not touch dell either, although I appreciate they have a lot of satisfied customers. The best machines are often what we refer to as whiteboxes. These are not branded and are usually built by smaller companies and retail outlets. Although they tend to cost slightly more, this is often because the components used are better quality (though I must stress there are some real cowboys out there!). If you MUST buy a brand name, I would go with HP/Compaq only because they tend to be better built, but remember, a branded machine may cause you problems further down the line, some Dell machines for example use odd memory chips that don't fit anything else, and can only be bought from......wait for it.....DELL! at about 3 times the price of anywhere else. Finally, I noticed one person above singing the praises of Apple Mac. I totally agree with them about the reliability and quality, but if you do go for a Mac, try to get one that doesn't have the INTEL chip, your retailer can advise you on this. Hope that helps a bit! My father bought an Emachine and it lasted about 3 months. Don't buy one. Walmart has good deals sometimes on PCs. Compaq is one brand that they sell, I had a Compaq for about 4 years and gave it to a family member because of upgrading and they still have it with no problems.
I have had a couple of Compaq computers and Dell computers with no problems what so ever. Dell is more expensive. Everone is going to have their own experience.

Emachines is owned by gateway, it is just another way to gain money.
I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST ANY HP/COMPAQ!!!!!!!!!!
THEY ARE THE WORST COMPUTERS!!!! And now they are one company!! What's the world coming to?
I am a computer tech. and let me tell you, all I fix are HP's!!!
Are you wondering... Well if he's a tech. why is he directing against HP? Wouldn't that bring him money?
Well this is the simple fact, I don't charge an arm and a leg like everyone else, because I am also a Real Estate agent, and I make 10 times more than any regular Computer Tech. so I don't need the money. I just do it because it shouldn't cost 300 or more to fix a simple problem!
My recommendation, I have been working with computers for 10 years, and have been a tech. for 6 years now, and I service MAC's too. I will tell you, those computers NEVER DIE! I have never been called for a MAC problem!
Save yourself the hassle, buy a MAC.
Good luck!
Otherwise, your safest bet is to build one on the net, and have it built and sent to you, or buy a dell. They are the only ones with the least amount of problems.

at the same time as you assert your first residing house, that is meant you're going to purchase an better later on. if so search for sale, and take a gut reaction about at the same time as it is going to fall. Then seem on the residence mainly, jointly with the realm, to look if it underperforms or overperforms the market. As a caution, I in my opinion would not make investments contained in the present London market, and ought to think very carefully about paying for everywhere in uk at cutting-edge expenditures. in case you opt on to quiet down, you've were given my sympathies. The market will bubble, those expenditures are close to the proper, unluckily it should be 2 years or better before depreciation. All computers have basically the same components, made in the same places (China, Thailand, Taiwan, etc.). The only difference is branding - like clothes. Look for a decent after sales package (support, etc.) and make your decision based on that.
