I have a Dell Computer 2350 which I bought 3 years ago. It has been running extremely slow and I have deleted some files, defragmented it and I do not know how I can get it to run efficiently again. Kindly provide me with recommended suggestions and answers.

It sounds like you have too much stuff running in the background. This is probably from installing software that by default sets itself to start up with windows...you will see most of the icons for these programs right next to your clock...some of this is also probably related to spyware.

I recommend 2 programs to help you get your computer back to peak performance. The first one is Ad-aware SE Personal...

Ad-Aware SE Personal edition can be downloaded for free from http://www.download.com. This program is designed to seek out and help you eliminate spyware and some trojans from your computer. This will help with any pop-up problems you might have too.

The second software is TuneUp Utilities 2007...

TuneUp Utilities 2007 is a bundle of utilities that is designed for the average user to take over control of certain aspects of their Windows eXPerience. While you can change things like the look and feel of Windows XP...this set of utilities also includes very powerful tools to help out with a slow computer...these utilities include....

Registry Cleaner - This nice little tool scans your Windows Registry and corrects invalid entries in your registry. During an install of Windows XP Pro SP2 and Office 2003 Pro you actually end up with almost 400 invalid entries....this tool fixes all of them

Registry Defrag - Operates in a similar manner to Disk Defragmenter....but this one works on the registry making the registry faster and easier to access to Windows.

StartUp Manager - This tool takes what msconfig can do to a whole new level. Not only can you disable unnecessary software from starting up...but you can remove the startup entry completely. *note* DO NOT DELETE YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE FROM THIS LIST....also...Items removed from this list DOES NOT uninstall any software.

1-Click Maintenance - This tool is designed to help keep your computer at peak performance...with a click of a button.

This is just a short list of what is in TuneUp Utilities 2007...there are more utilities included with this software. it can be found at http://www.tune-up.com you get unlimited use for 30 days....then you have the option of paying for the software if you like it and want to continue....I highly recommend....have on all computers i come in contact with...

At first glance, I'd say you have Malware -- http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=malware -- extra software installed on your computer that you weren't aware of that needs to be removed. I would start by going to Symantec's website and downloading a trial version of their virus scanning and cleaning software and running that.

Next, I would recommend that you go to LavaSoft's website and download and run their spyware scanning and cleaning software and running that.

After doing this, I would recommend that you archive most of your data files and off the hard drive and then defrag.

My last question is would be this: how much memory do you have and what OS are you running? All of those things can factor into this too.

As your system is 3 yrs old. You can Upgrade your PC's RAM. It may be due to 'worms' which will reduce the speed of your system, for that you have to run antivirus. Make Sufficient space on C:\. And if you still not get required output Format your system. ;)

Download this free and safe program called Advanced Windows Care. Also make sure you have only necessary programs running in the background (firewall, anti virus, etc, check your Systems Tray). Chow
