I have the one of the first Pentium 4's to come out which is the 1.3Ghz. Willamette core MMX, SSE, SSE2 256KB Cache and 2 128MB'S of PC800 RDRAM and a 60GB HDD a CD-R/RW which doesn't work. Antec case a 600 Watt power supply. Is this machine so obselete? what can i do to improve it? It has a nVidia GeForce2MX/MX400 64MB Video Memory for the video card.

You can still find the ram. I found all kinds on ebay.com. Tho they are very costly. I have an old desktop that runs dual pentium III 733MHZ CPUs and it has 512MB RDRAM. It has an old motherboard from an HP Kayak workstation. I was lucky and had a friend give it to me. The thing with RAMBUS is you have to have them in pairs. So make sure when you are searching for ram and buying you buy them in pairs. How many ram slots do you have? If you have 4 or more maybe i can help, I have 2 more sticks of 128MB i could give you and that could boost your over-all memory count. I would have to check the FSB of the ram tho first. But i'm pretty sure they would work. Just email me back: eragon200485@yahoo.com And maybe i can help more.

The reason RDRAM is obsolete is because Rambus tried to make some money. What they did was try to come up with better RAM. Then they got a patent on it and DID NOT allow any other companies to sell RDRAM without paying royalties to Rambus. They pretty much tried to start a Monopoly on RAM. Where as many companies were allowed to produce DDR RAM that companies preffered to make DDR RAM then pay some other company royalties.

RDRAM and Socket 423 went obsolete so quickly because, while RDRAM was an attempt to optimize the speed and performance of RAM, DDR and DDR2 came out shortly after and vastly out performed RDRAM. Also, the socket 423 was quickly replaced by the 639 and 939 sockets because they were able to process information quicker and their data processing rates far surpased 423. I suggest looking on tigerdirect.com for a better graphics card. In reality, if you are gaming or video/photo editing, it may be time to splurge on a new computer.

Well, you have a pretty old processor, and your RAM memory isn't alot, but i'd recommend increasing the amount of RAM. Note that you can't use just any type of ram, that it has to be specific for your computer and motherboard. You also have a pretty good power supply for what you are powering, so if you like to play games, I would say buy a 512mb video card. I have a Radeon X1600 pro video card which cost me 90 bucks off newegg.com and can play any new game on max or near max settings.

Although you can't easily and cheaply upgrade your processor, if you are trying to make your computer faster, I would defenetly reccomend more ram. 1gb stick of ram cost me $50 off newegg.com

Hope that helped

RDRAM was more complicated and expensive to produce than DDR RAM...That's before the royalty demanded by Rambus.

In certain instances it can be slower than DDR also.

Rambus memory was too expensive that when DDR came along every jumped ship to DDR.
