If you don't like apple, then it all depends what you want. the average desktop computer today (120 GB HD), 1 GB RAM, 2.0 GHz processor Intel Core (2) Duo or something similar will go for about $600-1200 depending on extras. I strongly recommend Apple products just because 1) You can run Windows if you want to and 2) They last for a long time (I mean they don't just go "kabash" one day).

A price of a computer may depend on the Company. The Apple Computer Company sells expensive computers vs. dell or HP/Compaq.Usually BASIC computers price around $300.00 to $600.00. The thing is when you order your computer, usually you need to buy essentials like a keyboard or mouse. When I bought my Compaq Presario, the computer cost was $300.00. EXCLUDING the monitor keyboard, mouse ETC.. After I bought my essentials, I ended up spending $1000.00. There is no simple way out. For a decent computer, you may need to spend over $900.00 on a computer.

Don't buy wal-mart crap! lol get an HP, Compaq, IBM, or Apple. you can get a fairly good one for $700 bucks, but don't buy the bottom of the line one, because it will suck. Don't buy Celeron, or AMD Sempron. (you can get Pentium 4, Core 2 duo, or AMD Athlon) I would Reccomend not buying a Dell or Gateway, because they totaly suck! lol and they use cheap parts that break easily. (Best bet would be HP or Apple) If you don't mind a used computer, go to eBay, and you can find a really sweet one for $500 that has all the stuff I mentioned.

Good Luck!!!

I recently had to replace my desktop. CompUSA $499 with $200 in rebates, 1Ghz, 160gig Hard drive, 512mb ram, DVD burner. If you play a lot of games, you might need something a bit more powerful. If you just use it for word processing, e-mail, and web surfing, a basic desktop should be fine.

A new basic computer would cost between $300 and $600. You might try using the factory restore option your computer came with, or if it didn't, you can reformat and reinstall your operating system and your system should be the same as when you bought it.

From $500. to $1000.00. Don't buy a stripped down computer because if you are going to use it for various other things, the add ons are expensive.

You can get a relatively good one for $500. For about another $100, you can get one that is fairly well endowed.
