i was using an emachines computer with windows 98 SE, before i got a new computer, and I wanted to know the possiblility of retriving files off the desktop. I have important family photos and music files i would like to save from the desktop. I was told by a friend who knows about computers that the motherboard no longer works...does this mean that my desktop files are non-retrievable? HELP...i need second and third opinions on this question.

You should be able to take the hard drive out of your old computer and install it in a second hard drive bay (which most desktop PCs have), where it will come up as another hard drive on your new PC. From there, you should have no problem retrieving your files.

I would, however, seek help from a computer professional in actually transplanting the hard drive, so as not to damage it.

Hi. All data is stored on your hard drive. This can be removed and hooked up to another computer as a slave drive (SL jumper on the back) and you should be able to get your files.

If the computer crashed, there is no way. Sorry, but that is why we all need to back up frequently.
