I have a hard drive that's 130 GB. I divided it into 26 GB primary and 104 GB extended. How can divide the 26 GB into 2 so I can put XP and Linux. I dont want to bother the 104 GB.

"Aternatively, you can partition the drive during the XP installation."

How do you do this?

well this is rather simple, just delete the system partition (26GB ones) the create two new one, one for Win and one for Linux (well this usually cost huge data erasure, but since you don't mind it... ).

You don't need programs like partition magic whatsoever, well, sure they could divide your partition into partition, without erasing data, sometimes...

Ok. Tutorial time:
1. Prepare your Windows Installation CD.
2. Change your boot setting into CD first (this is done in BIOS, usually by pressing delete key repeatedly just after you press the power button)
3. Restart the computer.
4. If asked if you want to boot from CD, say yes.
5. Wait for Windows CD to load all it's things
6. Just proceed to installing Windows.
7. The screen would show the harddisk current partition and you would be able to create and delete partition there.
8. Just left your secondary partition as it is, and delete your 26 GB partition.
9. Create 2 new partition, one for Windows one for Linux,
10. Continue like a normal Windows Install (or just quit, although since you are planning to double boot between Windows an linux, install Windows first, then linux for a less troublesome installation)

You need a program called Partition Magic if you don't want to lose the drive's current data.
If the data is unimportant, simply remove the existing partition and create 2 partitions the size you want using FDISK.
Aternatively, you can partition the drive during the XP installation.
During the installation, it will ask you which partition to install to and give you the option of deleting and creating partiions.
Then when you install Linux, simply specify the second partition as the place for it to install.
Always install linux second so you can use it's boot manager.

if you do fdisk in your primary disk you'll loose everything in it but since you won't touch the 104 i think the extended will be intact.

you would possibly want to not in any respect upload area to c: once you create extra walls as logical as a replace of commonplace. you would possibly want to format it to launch the gap. you may have i believe as a lot as 5 commonplace walls earlier you're compelled to create logical walls. notwithstanding, in order to do you want to apply a partition manager like the single accessible on the free HIREN boot disc. Backup your documents to an exterior pressure and format the logical walls.
