i want to buy a new computer, but i want a good processor--dual core, that will run very well when i upgrade to windows vista
I face a couple of options-- Pentium D, Intel Core 2 Duo, Athlon 64 X2, and the new multi core processors from AMD&Intel coming out in 2007
I need a computer that can be future proof for 3 years at least, equal, similar, or better than the specs of the HP m7490
The thing is, im trying to get a good dual core processor thats up to date...seeing that core 2 duo uses 40% less energy and is 40% better in performance--i like that
The core 2 duo is my top choice, but I want it ASAP in hp or some good manufacterer w/ specs comparable to the hp m7490-- im very confused on when those will hit shelfs at best buy or net
so, which processor should i get? i need a processor that has performance similar to pentium d 930 or 940
I also need it to not cost too much

on the side note, does anyone know the prices for each edition of vista upgrade?

when ever you buy a new machine or upgrade one you have to decide what its main role is going to be. eg graphics work games, just a simple work station doing simple stuff like spreadsheets.

Once you have decided this then you can get an ide aof the kind of spec you are after for machine. Different specs work well for different roles. eg a server doesn't need a 300 pound graphics card but it does need fast hard disks good networking etc

Looks like you have done your research already. Get the best, fastest you can afford when your ready to buy. Look for Procs labelled Vista ready. There will be new ones by the time your ready to buy it.

simple answer. Intel will lead, AMD will beat it shortly after.
Choose the now purchase. or choose the later better
