USB is short for Universal Serial Bus and 2.0 is the latest version number that means it can transport data up to 480Mbit/sec.

if you need such a card for an old desktop computer assure it's built with a NEC chip (that's pretty important, another chips aren't as good and could cause some troubles).

You probably have one on the back of your computer unless it is more than 4 years old. Have someone check it out for you.

Otherwise you need a pci adapter card that plugs into the computer's motherboard that has a usb 2.0 port on it.

They're right. It's almost more worth while to just buy a new computer with USB 2.0 ports. USB 2.0 ports are just like regular USB ports only a LOT quicker. I prefer Fire Wire myself.

Anyone who says get a new computer is misleading you. If you are otherwise happy with the performance of your computer, there is not good reason to get a new one. You can get a USB2 card for $10-$30
