I am able to wiggle it and prop the leading end of the cable such that I receive a connection.
It's not the cable itself.
I am looking for a way that will provide a sufficiently permanent fix.

If the plastic is not broken it is probably just needing a little soldering to the board. If fixing is out of the question then go wireless or get a new nic card installed.
