its an Intel Core 2 Duo, and yes Core 2 Duo is the best - for the most bang for your buck one, get the C2D E6600, its a fully fledges 4mb cache conroe for 15 bucks more than 300 dollars. plus it overclocks like a champ, i have mine at 3.2GHz stable with a Zalman CNPS9700 and an Asus P5B Deluxe

They're both great, but a lot of people are more familiar with Intel's Pentium Core 2 duo. Either way, you can't go wrong.

I use AMD in all the computers I build -- I don't think either is bad after all they are #1 and #2. It's hard to compare them based upon stats alone. Their architecture is different and the way they handle data is different. I have used both and don't see a great deal of difference in the way they perform.
