Not likely since Vista on new computers is an OEM product which is sold massively to computer producers like Dell and HP, the price of a windows XP installation is almost equal to that of a Vista version. Don't expect prices to go down just because of Vista. You could wait for PCs to come out with Vista, but it is not really required for any applications on the market and coming on the market yet. So you might as well buy a Windows XP pc and upgrade it after 1 to 2 years.

Note to the answer above this one: Linux is not installed on new computers, if you buy a new computer from let's say Dell or HP than windows comes already installed, besides that the questioner is not asking for the cheapest alternative. And if you count the time it takes to find all the correct drivers and do all the hastle to get Linux working on your PC you might as well spend 100 bucks to buy windows which takes no pain to install and runs most applications you need.

Not really, the price u pay for computers in stores (eg. best buy, Circuit City, TigerDirect.com, etc) will always be about the same. How is this? Basically, say if you pay $800 for a good decent PC today. In six months, if you pay $800, u will get a *better/faster* PC. Although not cheaper, you get a better PC. Why? because retail stores will not make a profit if they sell too cheap, so they just get u a better PC.

if u really want to make a *cheaper* (and faster) PC, then u have to build it yourself (research, purchase all the compenents, assemble). Its riskier but could save u $300 dollars or so for the same machine. Not sure? research! google "build my own PC" or something like that, there are tons of do-it-yourself help sites out there!

good luck!

No i don't think so - if the same PC is sold with a choice of operating systems then it will be dearer with Vista but Vista is compatible with most recent PCs so they can all be upgraded. It's not like they are all worthless because Vista has come out. It might have loads of bugs and not be worth upgrading to anyway.

No they won't , in fact they may go up a bit, because you will have to pay for the privilege to play with Vista.

If you want the Mac, get it. Chances are you won't regret it. If you have doubts about it, then hold off on it for now. Don't worry about lack of applications -- most worthwhile ones for general use are either ported already or have Mac-specific or platform-independent counterparts. (e.g. there is an MSN Live release for Mac platforms, but there are better programs for that sort of thing anyway...)
