as stated above he broke it yesturday, after 7 hours in the emergency room they realigned it and taped it to his pinky then they put a splint on it and wrapped it with an ace bandage and told me to follow up with an orthopedic surgeon on tomorrw. last night while he was sleeping the ace bandage unraveled and the splint came off and he woke up this morning in severe pain. im not a doctor but i did my best to realign and splint it again. my question is also, at the orthopedics office can i ask them to cast it? we are also flying out of the country on thursday and i would like them to cast it with a fiberglass cast so he can at least try to enjoy the beach/pool. in a child so young would they automatically cast it?

My daughter is confused. Tonight when we ate dinner there was still light outside but we ate at our regular time. my daughter said that we are supposed to eat when it is dark. It told her it was because of daylight savings time. Now she wants to know what that is. Please only answers that will tell her the truth but in a simple way that a 4 year old can grasp.

I don't want to be the nagging first-time parent in the doctor's office. He got these bumps on Friday morning. I gave him a bath last night, put lotion on him and today the bumps have spread and there are more of them. He has also had a dry patch of skin behind his left knee. No amount of lotion seems to get rid of it. Am I just being paranoid? Or is this stuff for real and I should talk to the doctor?

Just recently I took my son to the doctors and he was terrible. He refused to get on the scale to be weighed and measured. He screamed and cried. He's going to be three the 20th this month, is it normal for him to behave that way?How can I get him more comfortable?

I am SUPPOSED to be the authority figure, but I have a major weakness and they exploit it like...like...a radish- wielding Fraggle luring an unsuspecting Gorg! (see: Jim Henson shows)

If the children give me a really cute look or do something adorable I basically fall under their spell and let them off the consequences for slightly bad behavior. The troublemakers I have from ages 3-7 are very little and yet they are so unbearably cute that they emit this Zeek-controlling aura.

Seriously, why must I be so pathetically weak and foolish and let them get away with bad values? How do I build up an immunity to the cuteness aura? Thanks.

I mean, if when they are young, they don't interact with lots of kids, or don't go to daycare, or there are family problems in the family, or a time you were sick and you couldn't give lots of attention and love to your kids, does it really harm them for life, or they could change and become better????????

My daughter is getting sick of what I've been giving her for lunch. I'm not good at being creative as far as lunch goes, so she gets pb & j sandwiches or a grilled cheese. Sometimes I'll add lunch meat to her gc sandwich. She doesn't really like mac n cheese much either. Any ideas as to what else I can feed her?

He is very clingy. Doesn't speak yet (going to start speech therapy next month). Has 8 mo old sister that he isn't interested in quite yet because shes still little yet will pay attention to her if she grabs one of his toys, lol. Is always under my feet. I play with him all day practically but can't get anything done. There is no Moms Day Out programs available where we live. Pushes me away from counter if I try to make dinner. Sits on daddy's lap when he comes home but gets up continuously to see where I am at. Daddy's plays with him, I play with him, he just wants to be held constantly. I've tried finding kids his age to play with but am having no luck. I try teaching him new things but hes not interested. Hes happy to just sit on our lap and play with our hands. He will get down for maybe 2 minutes but the minute we move to do anything, he practically attacks us and clings to us. Like hes afraid we will leave him or something. He won't play with his toys for very long...

My 21mo old girl listens fairly well at home. If I tell her to stay out of the kitchen, she will. If I tell her to take her PJ's and pull-up to the bathroom and put her toys in the tub, she will. When we go out to say, a book store, she runs off as soon as I set her down and won't listen to me when I tell her to "stop" or "stay close". She gets mad when I try to hold her hand and just starts pulling away and getting grumpy. When I pick her back up, she fusses and gets mad because she wants to run around.

I never set her down in a very busy place because I know she could hurt herself or someone else. I'm trying to teach her to walk and stay close to me in places I know won't be crowded- like our local book/entertaiment store that has a cafe. Any suggestions?
I want to teach her in a safe way now so I won't have any problems as she gets older and can no longer be carried all the time. Also, is she too young to learn to stay away from strangers?

Does anyone have any tips about how to make a just about three year old boy a litle more loving and gentle towards his two month old brother? We thought we'd got it sorted throughout the pregnancy and in the first few weeks. But now, although generally lovely, our toddler has turned into an unusually (for him) attention seeking tot and has this weekend aimed a coat hanger at his brother's head. Driving us mad... All very common behaviour I'm sure, and probably all our fault (almost certainly, or is that a typical parenting guilt trip?). Anyway, any general tips from older hands at this parenting journey?
