So seriously....people on here really don't know what parenting is about...
These things happen! My step son had some issues with his poop too. It was a phase and he stopped. He is probably telling you he might be ready for the potty. Try sitting him on the toilet and praise him, even if nothing comes out. Encourage him! Don't worry this will phase will pass. If it doesn't talk to the doctor. =0)

my brother used to do this as a child, generally in the middle of the night while everyone was asleep once he learned how to take his nappy off. my mum found that if she put tape arund his nappy with the join at the back he couldnt get it off while everyone else was sleeping. she did the same thing during nap times during the day. while he was awake and playing she let him go without a nappy and persistantly asked him to go potty. once he was potty trained and realised when he needed to go it stopped the fasination with his pooh.

nothing really. he will stink to the highest heavens but I dont think this will harm him in any way.I did the same thing when I was younger and as all crazy behavior problems that children have they eventually stop doing them because they dont get a shocked response from mommie,he is just testing you to see what you do. the next time ignore him and walk away,he ll stop. rubberstampr

He could be diagnosed with coprophagia.

Consuming one's own feces potentially involves risk, as the bowel bacteria and eggs of parasitic worms are not safe to ingest.

Then I'd say he needs a little closer attention....you say he is doing this, as though it's ongoing.

There are certain bacteria that live in the digestive tract of mammals- namely E-Coli- that can make him VERY sick.

This is dangerous as it is the human body's waste product, but its not his fault. Its his mother's and YOUR fault, why are you leaving him unattended long enough to remove his diaper and smear it about, and why is he left in a dirty diaper that long. You had better start to paying more attention to him, because obviously he has not been shown what is right and what is wrong by anyone who should be guiding him. Its bad parenting that gonna hurt him, not anytrhing he is doing wrong, he doesnt know better because no one has told him.

feces
well lets hope he gets tired or sick of the taste, this is not an uncommon occurance, he is not abnormal at all. it of course is not healthy for him to do so. he will come to the point where he can no longer tolerate the taste.
also please consult your pediatrician
