I don't want to be the nagging first-time parent in the doctor's office. He got these bumps on Friday morning. I gave him a bath last night, put lotion on him and today the bumps have spread and there are more of them. He has also had a dry patch of skin behind his left knee. No amount of lotion seems to get rid of it. Am I just being paranoid? Or is this stuff for real and I should talk to the doctor?

Number one- cut out the lotion. Some lotions become contaminated with bacteria, etc. or he may be allergic to it.
Is he running a fever? Hard to say what it is but my guess is, it's Roseola. He's at the right age for it and it will soon pass, doctors generally let it run it's course. Take him to the doctor to be sure.

This sounds like Eczema. Stop the lotion. It aggrevates it. They make a like a bubble bath called Gentle Naturals Eczema Baby Wash. It's available at Target and Wal-Mart I think. Just drop a capful in the tub at bathtime. Use the lotion Aquafor on the dry patch on the back of his knee to keep it dry after bathtime. Make sure the area is free of moisture before you put the lotion on. If the bumps and the dry patch get worse, talk to his doctor about Elidel. It's a non-steroid cream that work wonders on Eczema. It's safe for all over body use. It will stop the bumps and itching, and help with the dry spot. Use a little cream and a little Aquafor.

It could be just dry skin or eczema. Are you using baby laundry detergent like Dreft, and a baby bath/shampoo. Baby's are very sensitive and you have to be careful of what you use on there skin. Allot of skin irritations are caused by the environment. If the rash isn't accompanied by a fever or cough you should be OK. Try using Eucerin Cream it is for eczema and dry skin. It worked well on both my boys. Or try no lotion at all sometimes that could be the problem. If it doesn't go a way after a week or it gets worse go see your doctor.

my friends baby had that and to my surprise it was a yeast infection and she had to get a cream from the Dr for her. It may also be an allergic reaction to the soap if you've used a new one, or if you've changed your laundry detergent. It could even be measles they're going around. Either way you need to call your doctor and have them take a look at it, if its like eczema cream could cause a burning sensation. I would check with your Dr before putting anything else on it, depending on what it is, if you put the wrong thing on it then it could spread. Take his temp, if he's not running a fever then it wouldn't be an infection, it would more then likely be some sort of allergic reaction. My nephews as well as myself are allergic to dyes and perfumes so we all have to use items that are free of those things.

My daughter got a rash kind of like that last summer. We actually had to cancel a picture appointment because of it. She got it all over her arms, legs, face, and torso. My doctor told me it was a severe form of heat rash, but I didn't feel it was like that. Eventually, it went away on its own. However, don't ever be hesitant to talk to your doctor about something that really bothers you. It could be nothing, but better call and feel silly than find out much too late that your child has measles. When in doubt, always call. Hope this helps.

It sounds like chicken pox. You should take him to the doctor at least just to be safe. You are just being a concerned parent and its better then neglecting the bumps. Don't worry about being paranoid, its not called paranoid after you have children its called being a parent. Good luck sweetie

No, you are not being paranoid. Take him in and have the doctor check it out. Sounds like some sort of a rash. You can also try hydrocortizone (sp). That might clear it up while you wait to see the doctor.

You should have him taken into see a pediatrician immediately. It may be nothing, but if it turns out to be something serious like chickenpox or the mumps, you will want to catch it right away.

Go to your doctor. Rash's can be serious in children. It's likely nothing, but you need to get it looked at.
