My son is 20 months od and is slightly under 32" tall. My concern is that he will be much shorter than average when he grows up. He is ahead of the curve developmentally. My husband is 6'3" and i am 5'8". Is my son too short - should i worry??

My daughter turned 4 September of 06'. I don't know what to do anymore. She has a bit of trouble speaking. I brought this up to her doctor, who said it was probably because she was an only child and didn't have any other children her age to talk to and develope speech with. She understands potty, peepee, poop in the potty. But she can't say "mom, i have to go potty". Her speech isn't all there for complete sentences. I think because she can't say it, it's easier for her to just go in the diaper. I tried the pull ups but it is the same thing she won't tell me i have to go. I tried bribing her with candy. I tried putting her in the bathroom until she went- or lack of going. I work fulltime so i am not there with her all day. i try on weekends, but what good is that when i go to work on Monday and she forgets? Her grandma babysits for me, but she isn't much help in the potty training side. Shes one of those "she'll go when she goes" person. But i'm really really concerned! HELP!!

I am just curious what everyone's thoughts are on giving a young child small amounts of alcohol. I've heard grandmothers and mothers alike use it as a sleep aid on rare occasions, or to sooth teething gums - Could it be better than giving a cold medicine that has alcohol as well as other drugs in it if the child doesn't need all those drugs? How do you feel about giving a toddler a small sip of beer or wine on VERY RARE occasions. Do you see it as a moral sin, or a useful age-old remedy? If you've used it as a remedy - what did you use it for and how much did you give your child?

Anytime I have to go to the bathroom, I am followed. So when that one time a month hits I try to get really clever about getting my two girls to do something else. However, my 3 year old is getting more and more curious about why I have a "boo boo" there. What in the world to I tell her little mind that does NOT include the birds and the bees? She doesn't yet comprehend what is going on with her body, let alone why I have to do what I do every month. I'm lost! My husband - obviously - is no help. He still doesn't understand what I go through. What do I tell her about tampons, liners, pads, the reason I have to do this all the time.....

I can't stand the Wiggles or any of that stuff, but know music is good for all of us. What's some good music that appeals to moms, dads and little ones...stuff we can play in the background during the day, or in the car?

Is it normal for an adult to need (actually NEED) to take a nap during the day. I'm a stay at home mom of two. Both of my kids are in school now but I still feel as if I'm about to fall over come 2:00 every afternoon and I have to lie down. I get around 7 hours of sleep each night, so its not that.

Is this normal?
Does anyone else out there take a daily nap?

My 18 month daughter has been talking since she was about 10 months. In the past month she has started putting words together to make small sentences. Since she has started doing that, all of a sudden she is stuttering a lot and not just when she is putting words together. She used to be able to say bye-bye just fine (since 11 months) but now every time she tries to say it she stumbles on the first b a couple times before she can get it out. She does it with a lot of her words that she has been saying for months now. I have read on the internet about this but most of the toddlers that have it seem to be quite a bit older than 18 months when it starts. Should I be worried or am I just an overprotective mom??? Thanks for all your help! :o)

Help, I thought being a parent would be easy especially since our daughter never really had any "terrible twos". Now that she is three years old, it seems she has been replaced by a demon child......... She yells at her mother, refuses to listen, throws temper tantrums, and is just plain spoiled. (She has 8 living grand parents)
We have just transitioned her from her baby room to her "big girl" room. She has a new big girl bed to go with this room. My wife is 6 months pregnant. I expected a change when the new born arrives, but the three year old is out of control. I am afraid that we are becoming canidates for Nanny 911........ We stopped using time outs a couple of months ago because they have become ineffective. We have begun counting to 3, and in the rarest cases a spanking. I hate to say it, but an occasional spanking is the only thing keping her in line. What other discipline techiniques are there? Any advice on raising a well mannered child would be greatly appreciated.

I know there are "terrible twos" but this is ridiculous. My two year old does not behave at all in public. He won't stay by me when we are in stores. He runs away all the time. He jumps up and down on the pews in church. It is really quite frustrating and not to mention embarrassing. By the end of the day we are exhausted. Him from causing a commotion and me from chasing him. I seriously am considering not taking him anywhere until he is older.

I'm hiring a lady to pick up my son from kindergarten in the afternoons, give him lunch, and watch him until hubby and I are finished work and can pick him up (around 5 hrs total). Daycares in my area run around $445 - $460 for this kind of care. How much should I pay?

My fiancé has a daughter who just turned 4 on fri, [i am 35 weeks preg with our child] the mother of the daughter NEVER calls, brings the kid, or anything unless she needs something from him (she wont even give him her phone # or address so that he could try to see his kid...bugs the holy hell out of me but that is a different topic), and when she has what she needs, she is not even grateful, like for xmas, the gift he got her was criticized, as in not enough... Well on sat we get a call from the childs mother (actually a message, we were out) saying that she wants to know when she should pick up the daughters birthday gift, then the daughter comes on the phone & says "John, its my birthday, give me money". thats all that was said... i am sooo bothered by this. i thought that it is rude & tasteless, but i do think that a small gift should be given, however my fiance, does not...should we get her something? what would you do? it seems like he is only "daddy" when they want something...

I have a 25 month old daughter that has started calling me by my first name instead of mommy or mama. The first time she heard it was when we were at the grocery store and she heard my husband call me by my name. What's funny is he usually calls me "Honey" not by my name. So it's funny that she picked it up that quickly. I try not to respond when she uses it but that is not always possible. She still calls me mama too but it's just very weird to hear her call me Amy. I'm a stay at home mom so I'm with her constantly. I know she knows I'm her mom. I just don't like to hear my child call me by my name. I thought she atleast had to be a teenager before that started! =)
