My little girl sucked a pacifier until she was 2 1/2. She got to where she really didn't want it unless she was going to sleep or got upset. Eventually, we just took them all away. We told her they were lost. She would cry every now and then for it but after a week she was absolutely fine. I was most worried about her having one to sleep but she has slept just fine without it, probably even better b/c I'm not having to wake up 5 times a night to find it.
The best way is to just go cold turkey, they will eventually move on!
Good luck!

Several options:
take it away and let him/her cry for a few days

have him/her throw them all away and take the trash out right away so he/she can't get them back.

Have the "Binky/Paci/Nuk Fairy" come--have the toddler put them in a special place for the fairy to come and replace it with a new present.

Slowly begin to cut the pacifier each day-the sucking sensation will change and he/she won't want it anymore.

I don;t think when it comes to a pacifier at that age it can be weaned. I think u just need to tell them that they are a big kid now and pacifiers are for babies.

You don't say how old your toddler is. Two of my grandchildren just did not want to give up their pacifiers. One kept hers until she was three and then just said she was too old for it. The other one I told that there was a "binky" fairy that would come and take it and leave her a present. She was very happy to leave it for the fairy and she got a lovely trinket box in its place. You might try just letting your child have it at nap and bedtime.

well seen as u said toddler i take it that you child is not a baby anymore which is when you should have done this but i suggest you throw them away it is the only way he/she wont have one and you wont be tempted to give it back to them it will be very hard because of the age he/she is now but just wait it out and they will give over it and might i suggest u do this the same time u get rid of the bottle if u have not already done that it will be harder on them but easier on you and if your child is on the bottle still she/he will use that as comfort instead of the pacifier

My daughter was in daycare and there was a friend of mine that had twins and used the same pacifier. One day I told her that the twins needed her pacifiers so she packed them all up and gave all of the to the babies. She is 5 now and when you talk about the twins she will tell you she gave the new babies her Boppie ( that is what she called it.)

I took my youngest out to buy a drinking cup - his choice - and led up to this for about 2 weeks by explaining that when we did this, we'd have to give his pacifiers away so that little babies could have them. Then I threw them all in the bin! he fussed for 2 days then forgot all about them. I like the idea of cutting holes in them tho!!

Depends on the age. You can cut a tiny little hole in the nipple part of it and it makes it not so fun to suck on. Or what I did (and since easter is coming up I am suggesting this) I put the pacis in an easter basket and told my daughter that the easter bunny needed them for her babies and she would leave her something nice in return.

my daughter was just about three when i took her of her dummy. she was 2 1/2 whan i started to wean her off it. I started by only letting her have it when it was nap time and of a night time sleep it took har awhile to get used to it but after about 1 month she started giving it to me after she woke up. then after doing that for about 5-6 months i told her to though it in the bin (let them do it.) tell them it is yucky and then in about 2 weeks they shouldn't even worry about it.

We are in that situation right now... we only give it to him when he is in bed and have started to cut the end off... a little more each day. There won't be much left in a week or so...
