It is great that you show concern for your toddler in giving him/her peanut butter. Many people do not know that it is a huge choking hazard. If you would like them to experience the pleasures of peanut butter earlier, you can mix it with jam or jelly so the consistency is not too thick and it is easy to swallow. If you chose to feed him/her just the peanut butter, you should wait until after they are three years of age.

I heard now doctors are recommending 3.

I personally gave peanut butter to my son around 1.5, but we don't have the allergy history in our family

Ask your pediatrician (some will ok it at one year), but most doctors say wait until they are 3 years old. The concern is a peanut allergy - which can be very fast and very bad, potentially fatal. Also, its so thick its a choking hazard.

I have a toddler and have been trying to figure this out myself. I have had lots of conflicting information from nutritionists and dietitians...I have decided to wait until my son is at least 2.
