I can't stand the Wiggles or any of that stuff, but know music is good for all of us. What's some good music that appeals to moms, dads and little ones...stuff we can play in the background during the day, or in the car?

I like to listen to Radio Disney with my kids. It has upbeat, fun modern music, and they change the lyrics if they feel something's not appropriate. I can listen to it with my kids, enjoy it myself and sing along! If you want to find your local station, just click on the link below :)

We always did country music or the 50's and 60's music. It's something the kids can listen to and you don't have to be afraid of what's being said. I had to limit even country music with my son cause he learned to repeat every word of his favorite songs. Some were a bit more than a little boy should be singing. lol..lol. Other than that, CD's with little ones songs on it, like ring around the rosie, old macdonald..that kind of thing. I could only listen to those songs for a limited time, that's why we did the 50's and 60's. Mom to 3 who love Country, Oldies, Rock, Classical, Heavy Metal and R&B.

Yes... the Wiggles can definately get old after a few rounds of "Big Red Car" or "Fruit Salad"!! Have you looked into other children's song artists? Jim Gill has multiple CD's and lots of good stuff. Greg & Steve are good for moving around. Disney music is always fun. Try to find a compolation CD with main songs from many Disney movies - a CD on just one movie get's old, fast! Classical is good, but can be annoying with the vast changes in dynamics for car rides. Jazz is great - especially something upbeat. Makes for great dance music! When I was growing up my parents always played what's now referred to as "classic rock." Songs that have a hidden meaning, but don't come right out and say it, fly right over the heads of young ones.
I'm glad you recognize that music is important in our lives!!! Have fun with it! Get up and dance!! :-)

I made a CD recently for a 80th birthday party for an Aunt. But, my kids love it. They are 5 and 3. They put it on almost daily to listen to it. It has a lot 40s music on it. Some of their favorite songs are: "In the Mood", "Somewhere over the Rainbow", "Fever", "Catch a Falling Star" etc. They LOVE it, and it's music that I actually like too. Not my first choice of music, but it doesn't annoy me either. Classics are great.

I agree with the first answerer, that classical and some country can be fun to listen to. Children like all kinds of music, just choose something that appeals to them (but use common sense to keep profanity and negative contexts out of the music- such as, I wouldn't recommend rap as music for children to listen to.) Some kid friendly music that has funny songs (if you don't mind Christian themes) is by Mary Rice Hopkins. She has several CDs out, with all kinds of themes. You can also get some non-Christian based kids music CDs just about anywhere that have kid-friendly songs. Another suggestion- don't bother with the Kids Bop CDs- they are adult songs sung by kids, so the content is not always age-appropriate. Try out different genres- you may be surprised by what they like! My eight-year-old loves her daddy's punk cover songs (they do songs like Over the Rainbow, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, etc to punk music) and another album we have is by jazz musician Harry Connick Jr., which the kids love since it really upbeat (Title: Songs I Heard). We also have the 3 CD collection of Disney's Greatest Hits which has songs from Disney movies.

88.5 WXPN has a 'kids Korner' everynight at 7 that is wonderful. That's a Philly station, but it's brodcasted all over the country. Check out www.wxpn.org for more details on how to get the station or to listen online.

Also - for any dead heads - Garcia & Grisman put out an album called 'Not Just for Kids' that's really cute!

Classical should work, and (depending on your beliefs, I'm not trying to force anything) contemporary christian, such as GoFish (more for families w/ kids) or Phillips, Craig, and Deen. Also, there are a lot of Beatles songs that are good for kids, some compilation CDs are even created for kids.

Any worship CD by Georgian Banov! His is a fantastic musician, and kids literally go NUTS dancing with his music. I especially recommend 'River of Joy' and 'My Beloved.'

I bought several of the Disney's Greatest Hits Cds. They have all the most popular Disney songs from all kinds of Disney movies. I will admit, Toy Story's-"You've got a friend in me" has become one of my all time favorite songs.

I feel you on the Wiggles... if I hear "Fruit Salad, Yummy yummy...." One-More-Time. . . . . . LOL
