My son who just turned one has started spitting out just about any food that requires chewing. It started about two weeks ago as something he would do at the end of the meal, but now he spits out just about everything except things that don't require chewing. He's lived off of cheerios, yogurt and oatmeal for the last few days. Is this just a phase? I try not to make a big deal out of it when he does it, but I'm worried he's not getting enough to eat. Any thoughts? He's not teething, by the way.

I'm working with my aunt in her daycare for the summer, and there's this one little preschooler girl who cries ALL the time unless I pick her up. If I put her down she'll start crying again and won't stop unless I pick her up again... you get the idea. She's really shy and I've only heard her talk like, twice. I've tried distracting her with games and toys, but she doesn't want to do anything. I need to pay attention to the other kids, too, and she isn't having any fun! What can I do?

We will start watching a 3yo in or daycare who still drinks a bottle of milk at nap. She drinks a sippy cup the rest of the day. She has it in the bed with her. We have cots for then to sleep in so if bottle leaks in it it will need to be replaced. We usually have a rule that bottle are not allowed here after the child turns two. What to tell the parents? I feel that a bottle at 3 is rediculous anyway. Just give her a sippy at nap or nothing at all? Don't know what to do?

to find my wife (who is in her thirties) is at home happily jumping unclothed, on our bed and squealing with delight.

I watched her for a while and asked, "Do you have any idea how ridiculous you look? What's the matter with you?"

She continued to bounce on the bed and said, "I don't care what you think. I just came from having a mammogram and the doctor says that not only am I healthy, but I have the breasts of an 18-year-old."

I thought very quickly and said, "What did he say about your 42-year old a*r*s*e?"

"Your name never came up," she replied.

Serve me right I s'pose

I am in need of food ideas for my 13 month old son. Some of the food he currently eats cheese, grilled cheese, hot dogs, bananas, ravioli-meat and cheese, meatballs, pasta however I'm in need of new ideas for him. He's very picky (a surprise for this age right?!). I can't get him to eat veggies or fruits..any suggestions on things that worked with your little one I would greatly appreciate it..along with simple food ideas.

I have searched and searched the web for someone else who has this problem. Although I am by far not complaining, I feel that maybe I should take him to the pediatrician. My son is very active when he is up and quite alert. My issue is that he sleeps over 12 hours through the night and takes daily naps for 3-4 hours.

Am I worrying needlessly or should I have him checked out? He is a perfectly normal 14 month old--walking, playing, talking, climbing, etc. But what is up with all the sleep?!?!? This isn't sporadic either, it's been going on for months!

Anyone who has had this issue and can provide me any insight is welcome to help me out.

We have tried everything. Even going to put water into his bottle, putting 3/4 water 1/4 milk. We have got the nipple. We have bought sippy cups with the soft spouts that are like the same material as nipples. I need to get him off by two which is in two months because everytime we go to the doctor since he was one we have gotten scolded for having him still on the bottle.

He will pee with no problem, but he would rather walk around with poop in his pants than to do it in the potty. I've tried everything from praising him to bribery, nothing works.

I don't get home from work until at least 6.30 three days a week and my little girl (nearly 18 mo) goes to bed about 6.30-7 so there's no way we could eat together, but I was wondering when I can look forward to all eating together in the evenings.

It seems this summer has gone by sooo fast and she has grown up sooo much. I'm looking for quick (cheap would be great too) ideas of things we can do together tomorrow as one last big blowout. The little boy I nanny for developed a stutter about a month and a half ago. I literally went away for a week and a half and came back to find him stuttering. His parents noticed the quick change, too. I wouldn't be concerned, aside from the fact that it literally happened overnight. He is definitely a gifted child, so I'm assuming that it's just a matter of his mind working faster than his mouth, but his parents are really concerned about it. They are going to take him to a speech pathologist in a couple of weeks, but I'm trying to reassure them in the meantime. I think it's fairly common, particularly with kids of superior intelligence (He knew colors, shapes, numbers, and letters--including identifying them in words and on their own at 17 mos. and can identify peoples' names that he knows in writing), but I just want to help put their minds at ease. Does anyone have information on it? Thanks!

In the last couple of months, I've noticed that my 4 year old daughter has body odor! I don't really smell it unless I'm up close to her, but it's definately the oniony, body odor smell! Isn't she a little too young for that? I've left a message for her pediatrician and he said that he was going to do some research about it and get back to me, but I just wonder if anyone else has had this happen w/ their young children. She's usually "smellier" after a day of hard play, and it goes away after her bath, but it's usually an every day occurence. Any ideas?!?!

My son has special needs and can not speak, so I do not even know he feels bad until he either starts crying or throws up. What can I do before or during a car ride to make him feel better? I am unsure if Dramamine is safe yet.

I know that with today's technology with formulas and baby food, mothers are able to stop breastfeeding long before this age, however, it is my understanding, before all this technology it was ok to breastfeed well into the third year and if the mother wished to do so could do that now as well.

My son is 3 1/2, and I'm due in December to have a boy. My hubby and I are keeping him involved and he loves to feel his brother kick. My question is, besides beefing him up about being a big helper and big brother, what can we do to prepare him for the new arrival. I've told him that I'm going to need alot of help from him, changing diapers and feeding the baby and singing songs to him, and he seems excited, but then he doesn't want the baby to live with us. Is there anything I can do to help prepare him?

This has started to develop this past week- he'll deny being afraid of the dark or monsters under his bed, but then he'll beg to sleep on the sofa over his bed. He says he's afraid he'll be "taken" through the window in his room by someone, as in kidnapping. What should I do?
