In the last couple of months, I've noticed that my 4 year old daughter has body odor! I don't really smell it unless I'm up close to her, but it's definately the oniony, body odor smell! Isn't she a little too young for that? I've left a message for her pediatrician and he said that he was going to do some research about it and get back to me, but I just wonder if anyone else has had this happen w/ their young children. She's usually "smellier" after a day of hard play, and it goes away after her bath, but it's usually an every day occurence. Any ideas?!?!

Could it possibly be something she is eating. Maybe the spices or seasoning in her food are coming through her pores when she sweats. If that is the case, maybe change her diet and give her some bland food. It is a good idea to call the doctor. Hopefully you find out what it is. Good Luck!!

It's pretty normal... as far as I know, anyway... my oldest and two nieces were all this way. My younder two are not yet 4, so we'll see...

Regular old deodorant isn't necessarily the answer, since it doesn't sound like it's an armpit issue, but an overall body perspiration. Just make sure she bathes every day, and if it is really bad, you can use an aerosol deodorant and spray it lightly all over her body.

However, it could be a sign of a hormonal issue. If you see body hair (especially pubic or armpit), If she seems to be overly curvaceous, if she appears to have monthly mood swings, any vaginal discharge, or any other signs of early puberty... call the doctor right away.

Good Luck!

coming from my experience with kindergarteners, little kids SMELL!!! And yes they will have body odor especially after they go outside to play. Trust me, I've walked through the hall w/them there and I've had to hold my breathe because it's so strong. Some deo would be a good idea. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Everyone smells. LOL

When I was little, I had BO even younger than that. I would get BO just one hour after a bath. People did not have to be up close either. Borax was the only thing that would remove the smell from my clothes. I think it can be caused by a zinc deficiency. I outgrew it when I was in my late teens.

Has she been eating garlic-ky foods in the past few months? Garlic odors tend to seep out through the pores, and that may mix with her sweat and make her smell that way. It could be a hormone thing. Pretty sure it's no big deal though ;)

It's just sweat. if you have a lot of onion or garlic in your diet, you are going to smell it!
Use a deo on her but NOT an anti-persprint. It will clog up her pores. A deo will give a fresh, clean smell that won't bother her little pores or mess up her sweating naturally.
Hopes this helps!

My daughter( 5) has the same problem. And i don't really notice it either unless I'm really close to her or she lifts her arms. I have no idea how to deal with it except to bathe her everyday.

My little sister was like that.........I don't know why?! My mom just always put deoderant on her and it worked.

I do know that I am 2 years older than her and she grew alot faster than I did, she grew boobs before I did and she started her period before I did. She just developed a lot faster than I did. Who knows maybe it has something to do with how quickly your body is going to mature.

She should probably have a blood test to rule out a hormone imbalance!
