Toddler & Preschooler - July 2007

My son will be 3 years old on July 27th and has yet to speak clearly like other 2-3 years that I come across. I thought it had to do with him being the only child in the household and not being in day care. I put him in daycare for about a month and took him out of it because it was a bad experience. The doctors were concerned that he wasn't speaking in 2-word sentences and speaking more clearly. They even thought that he needed to go to a speech therapist but I'm very stubborn and I thought eventually he will start talking when he's ready. I'm going to bring this up when he goes to his 3 year check up. I just wanted to see if there were any other mothers out there that are having this problem as well.

Thanks in advance.

I work for a daycare and this one little boy, 4 and a half keeps peeing himself. it is daily. the parents bring in clothes and tell me to punish him. he poops once a week and pees himself once or twice a day. this has been going on for five months. should i put him back in diapers for a week or so. i'm tired of taking time away from the other kids to change him out of his clothes. what kind if i do that. i want to get this kid to stop doing it. when should i put him in diapers. next accident. next pooping accident. any other suggestions. help me daycare providers please.

if my 22 month old son does not get what he wants he starts screaming, and when he gets really bad he holds his breath and ends up swallowing his tongue.. its happened twice now but the last time it happened he went floppy and really scared us.. every time he cries we are constantly worrying that he'll do it again. please dont reply with stupid answers as this is a serious question.

I love my 2 year old son but he's so getting on my nerves. Throwing toys, wanting to watch SpongeBob, no Barney, no Happy Feet and back to SpongeBob. I want milk, I want juice, I want, I want, I want. Taking his diaper off, I put in back on, he takes it back off. The list goes on. I'm complaining, I know, but I need a break or at the very least to know I'm not alone. Any other moms with toddlers out there? How do you handle it all?

My daughter has just turned 4 years old, she displays what Ifeel is strange behaviour. She eats sand, dirt, paper, glitter, sponge, cotton wool, foam ANYTHING. I have to watch her like a hawk. She has already had one small operation under general anthesetic to remove sponge foam from up her nose.

Even in school she has to have a teacher with her during sand play and using the glitter. She puts her hands down the toilet to try and lick the water from down there. If I put bubble bathn in the bath she licks that, the same with dish water.

Do you think that this strange behaviour for a 4 year old because she is my 4th child and the other 3 didn't do this.

My neighbor lady has a daughter who would be good for a few hours durning the day to watch my 9 month old. How much do I pay her? There would be some days where I would leave and run errands, go to a movie, etc... and other days where I just need someone to watch her while I clean the house. Any ideas? She is 11, and I am not sure if she has had any experience.

It is very important that my toddler takes his antibiotic medicine, which he needs for a rash he has, but it is proving to be very difficult. I use a syringe, but he spits almost the entire dose out of his mouth and it goes all over, if he even sees the medicine, he hides and starts a tantrum. Any ideas?

My son is 21mths ol. He has started talking, saying loads of individual words, but no sentances together yet.

Yesterday, he pointed to my bum and said "bot-bot" I said "yes, mummies bot-bot"...he then pulled his cheekiest fac, pointed again to my bum and said "tractor"!

I know it's not that funny to anyone else but it made me laugh!

What has your little one said?

We all know how many calories he aversge, women and man should consume a day. But how many calories should a todler consume. I appreciate the mixed well balanced diet theory, which he has. But I was wondering if there were any guidelines that would help me.
I also appreciate that a child will eat as much as it needs. I am loking for specific not general answers.

All he ever eats is chicken nuggets. I have tried and tried to make him eat the dinner that I make my husband and I, but he'll usually just eat the fruit and then have a fit for milk.

My wife and I were shopping today and this little girl around 4 year old had to pee. The mom kept ignoring her and finally told her to shut up and said that she was not going until they got home. This was in a Walmart which has family bathrooms in the back and regular ones in the front. I just do not understand and this is not the first time I have seen this? Does this go on everywhere or just here in TX where I live?

Okay, my niece is turning two. My sister said she likes Elmo and she likes videos that have a lot of music and short sketches (not a longer video with an actual plot).

I got this video at Target, and I'm trying to decide if the age is right. What do you think?

I also got her a book and puzzle.

She has started to take off her nappy to poo so i assume that she is somewhat ready. However, she does not sit on the potty long enough to do anything and often ends up wandering off to go and poo/pee somewhere else (not in the potty).

I am not sure she understands that she is meant to poo/pee in the potty, or if she does understand, she doesnt want to.

Any tips?
