NEVER, NEVER put it in food or drink like so many others are saying. He may not eat or drink it all and won't get the proper dose. Get the medicine in a syringe and get something for him to drink--a sippy cup--and calmly and nicely tell him it's time to take his medicine. Get on the floor with him and lay him down. Put the syringe in his mouth and squirt the medicine pretty far back and quickly use your hand to close his lower jaw and mouth. A quick blow in the face and give him the sippy cup. Just do it quick and try not to make a big deal out of it.

Mix it with food or drinks he likes (so you know he will consume the whole thing), if you make a big show of it by using a special syringe he's bound to get wound up. Stop making such a big deal out of it in front of it or he'll get more and more worked up every time you produce the syringe. Be subtle and don't tell him what he's taking.
If he has a favourite drink make a big deal out of the fact he's getting his favourite drink and then mix it with it so he'll finish the whole thing.

When I give my daughter amoxicillin for ear infections, I usually find it easier to have someone else hold her arms and feet down.
I know it tastes pretty gross and I feel bad, but the have to take their medicine!
I usuallly will open her mouth by holding her cheeks, then I plug her nose (you have to be quick). She cries and opens her mouth wide, I put the siringe in her mouth and then blow at her face (makes you swallow).
she then cries for a little while but then we cuddle and nurse to sleep. Hope this helps!
To some it may sound cruel that I have someone hold her down while I give her medicine, but all that matters to me is that if she's sick, she NEEDS to take her medication and if she spits it all out, obviously she wont get better!
ps. my daughter is 22 months.

my daughter did the same thing and we went thru the hide it in the food and she also knew it was there , well .. i told her that if she did not take her medicine she would have to get a shot , now you will have to stand by your word ,if he does not take .. this happened only once with my daughter and she got the shot because it was easier than fighting with her, after that i have had no problems she was 23 months at the time .

Firstly, you need a reward for good behaviour - something small like a chocolate.
Secondly, take the syringe away - it's clear that this is now a signal that a fight is about to start.
Thirdly, try to encourage him be be a 'big boy' and hold the spoon (do two half-doses so he doesn't spill it!) and let him feed himself.
It worked with our eldest (almost 3).

My kids did this with a certain type of antibiotic. It smelt bad and tasted worse. The pediatrician told me to mix it in a little bit of vanilla pudding. Which I felt bad about doing twice a day, but it worked and they got better which is all that counts. Good luck.

his favorite teddy may like the medicine or whichever animal is his best pal. it has to happen like it is not important and he has to be willing to take it so if teddy is willing and monkey too and all his playground pals like some he will too. or mix in with a drink but this is risky because he may turn against the drink and may not take a whole dose.
