I will probably need to put my 2 year old son in daycare within the next month or so. It will be part time--about 15 to 20 hours a week. I will be going to visit some in the next couple of weeks. So, what kinds of questions would you ask while visiting? What would you look for to indicate that the daycare is good (or bad)? I want to make sure that they give high quality care.

These are not home daycares in case it makes any difference. I assume it will be okay to ask questions. Right?

Also, are there preschools for children this age? If so, what would the difference between a daycare and preschool be? Thanks for any ideas and input.

My son is 2 1/2 now and no matter what I do he will not use the potty. His favorite thing in the whole world is elmo so I have tried buying elmo underwear, baby elmo that uses the potty, an elmo dvd that helps kids potty train, and an elmo potty. He doesnt even care when he goes to the bathroom on himself. He could go hours with poop on his little butt and he wouldn't care lol. Any suggestions I will try anything at this point!!!

It's a long storey, so I won't explain it, but I actually saw this happen to another child. My nephew was playing with this child. I thought it was the child's father, but when the child left with a woman, and the man who hit him stayed behind, I realised with horror that this man hit a complete strangers child.

Okay, I'll try this category since everyone else answers were nonsense.

Here is the situtation:
I am a single parent who will be moving to a smaller community (22,000 people versus 1.3 million) and have a few dilemmas.

Career Dilemma:

First, I already have an Associates Degree in general studies.

I want to change careers as well as just relocating. Most job advertisements require only a high school diploma (only 20% of the town has an AS or BA).

I am looking into short term education opportunities where I am living now. Would it be better to get additional program certificates in one specific area (such as accounting) or get course certificates in a variety of areas? I just want to be able to get a job there.

Family Dilemma:

How do I explain the move to my son? He will be four when we move and really hates change.

When my son was 18-months-old his doctor at the time said he should be putting 2 words together. The doctor recommended a free speech therapy program through the county school system. Well, when my son turned 20-months-old he sky rocketed in speech and when the speech teacher comes to my home I feel like there is no need for her to come. She only comes to my home once a month because she said he is doing so great he only needs her to come once a month. She said my son is technically not receiving speech therapy, because they have not found a need to bring in the actual speech pathologist yet. My son is now 2-years-old and the speech teacher said today that he is speaking in his age range now and wouldn't probably qualify for their speech program if retested. She still plans to come once a month, but I am wondering why should I continue this program if my son is doing so great and doesn't need it? Should I continue with it anyway just to be on the safe side?

ok, first let me tell you that kindergarten IS NOT a requirement in my state, and this is the first year that they have all day kindergarten instead of the am/afternoon stuff. i have been carefully weighing my options here, for the simple fact that my school is very picky. for instance, one of the requirements that they have is the child HAS to be able to write their name. now while my boys aren't 100% on it, they do get it pretty close. they know their abc's but don't always recognize the letters. they know numbers, but don't always recognize the number. they cannot read yet, which is not unusual. They will be 5 at the end of July. Perosnally, i do not think that they are ready to start-and i would much rather have them wait til next year to start instaed of having them start & the teachers deciding they aren't ready & sending them home. i believe that would upset them. does this make sense to anyone?

Is this normal? Is there anyway to get her to stop. I'm worried she will ruin her teeth before she even gets them all. Please help.

to sexually stimulate themselves? I work at a daycare and a little girl does even after i've told her not to? She proceeds to lay on her stomach and rub herself against just about anything that would stimulate her. I know it's common for children to explore themselves but i don't remember being so "intuned" with my body until much later.

I have a little daughter she is 3 years and 3 months old. she dosn't speak yet.She says some words but no sentences.I went with her to a specialist and she told me that the probleme is that her brain works faster than her mouthe. Is that posible? I went with her even to a Phsycology and she sais that my daughter will eventually speak.I think she is very smart she understands everything i say ,she eats alone ,sleeps alone, goes to the toilete alone but she dosn't speak .She is using about35-40 words to express herself. The other day i heard her counting to 5 and when she saw i was watching her she stoped and placed her hands on her mouthe. Is it posible that she can already speak but she dosen" want to for some reason i can't understand ?

My 5 year old niece seems to understand him well but I can barely make out his words. He can't really annunciate most sounds. He can hear well and listens and knows what you are saying. It's so hard to make out what he wants or is trying to say. He does go to daycare so you would think he picks up new words and the teachers talk to him. I managed a small childcare facility and remember that most 2 year olds can even say simple words, and by 3 you should be able to have a simple conversation. Any suggestions or anyone know of other children with this similar problem and what happens?

My son is 28 months old. He is only child & our family is bilingual (Spanish & English). He isn't talking. He makes a lot of noise. He sometime understand what we are asking for, but some others not. I'm getting frustrated. He's on Speech, Occupational & developmental thereapies. He has hearing test & it's ok. I just waiting for Sept. to take him to a Neurology test. However, I'd like to know if anyone has had this problem & how it was solved, or not. Sometime I think there is some wrong with him, but some others I think he is ok & lost in 2 languages. Has anyone been in this situation???
