My daughter is 1 year old. She only has 2 teeth on the bottom and is just starting to get her first tooth on the top. Recently I heard what sounds like her grinding her teeth. It sounds really bad. Is this normal? Is there anyway to get her to stop. I'm worried she will ruin her teeth before she even gets them all. Please help.

She may be teething, My son used to do it before his teeth had even broken through (rub them together that is) then when the teeth came through he was still moving his bottom teeth (jaw) side to side so it cut the top teeth. Once they came through i thought he would stop but it didnt. I had to give him teething sticks to chew on so he would stop.

The grinding is normal - its a symptom of teething and they are exploring the new teeth coming in. If it becomes obsessive, consult a doc. My 15 month old started grinding her teeth when her molars were just starting to come through.

My daughter did the same thing while teething, after the tooth/teeth would pop through she would be done until the next one, I used the baby oraljel and it did help. I understand about the whole ruining the teeth thing, you could probably call your dentist or even the doctors office. I am sure they could be of more help than me! Just thought I share my story! Hope it all works out for you!

I've heard of these plastic things that you put on a toddler's tongue, and that's supposed to prevent the grinding. Go to a doctor with her- he'll know what to give her to make it stop,or at least cease.

Yes,it's normal with most kids starting from as young as 6 months. It's best to consult with a doctor though, and ask what it best to give her,or what to do.

7 years ago I've been involved in a car wreck and even since suffered with severe on and off facial and jaw pain. I've tried almost everything western medicine had to offer and had visited countless of specialist, had done ct scans, and therapies but to no avail. The doctors I have been to had persisted that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that almost drove me crazy as I was going through hell from this condition. According to all my symptoms I was diagnosed by a holistic doctor as having TMJ and he had recommended this book to me. After following the recommendation in the book for several weeks, it had changed my life. I got immediate relief after following the unique set of exercises in the book and after 2 weeks the jaw and face pain had completely gone. I only wish I would have ordered this program years ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and anguish.

it is normal but it could be either her trying to relieve the pain of teething or it could be stress.

Grinding, although annoying, is normal.

I did it when I was a baby, and my first daugher did too. It's because of stress.
