he'll get it. don't discourage what he's doing. he just hasn't attached the feeling of needing to go with the desire to go.
he thinks he's going potty by standing there.
he just hasn't gotten the big picture yet.
he'll get it...keep encouraging him!
take care:)

Maybe he's just going to the potty when he doesn't have the need to go. I'm sure he's using it in his diapers, right? So it's not that he can't pee it's that he doesn't have to. He's just mockin the other kids' behavior and doesn't understand what it feels like to "need to go." When he goes to the potty, run water. If he has to go, running waer intensifies the urge and he'll be able to better recognize that feeling.

Most boys dont really have full bladder control until they are two and a half and some are as late s three years.
You could try running the tap , but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. He will do it when he is ready.

Make sure you have a day off to do this..Keep having him drink fluids all day..no diaper! only boys undies, no shorts or pants..this really works if you Can be outside and don't mind him peeing in the yard ..now you have to watch him and soon as you see him peeing in undies call his attention to it and yank em down and have him grab hold of himself and let him pee in the yard..If you Can move potty chair outside too..Sounds kinda barbaric but they don't understand the feeling of having to go until you catch em at it a few times....One day of this and I guarantee you he will get it..

Let the faucet dribble water. That was a trick my mom did for me when I was having trouble letting go.
