My son is 20 months od and is slightly under 32" tall. My concern is that he will be much shorter than average when he grows up. He is ahead of the curve developmentally. My husband is 6'3" and i am 5'8". Is my son too short - should i worry??

Also, and i know i probably shouldn't but it seems that everytime someone points out how short he is i feel miserable, liked i failed him - is that wrong? I get mad too, i don't think its very polite to point that out to a parent...ugh, maybe i think too much.

there are formulas to predict a child's height. give a google search for adult height formula and use one of the formulas. they're fairly accurate. I would bet that your kid will be plenty tall based on your heights.

His doctor should be able to guesstimate his adult height based on his leg bones or something like that. You could ask and see what that guess is. He could go through a growth spurt at any time and probably will. Kids grow at different speeds. I know someone who was short all through childhood and then shot up during puberty and is now tall.

I don't understand the stigma on being short but if that's how he's going to be, it's ok and no one's business. Just make sure he knows that his height doesn't matter and encourage all his positive attributes. Tell the busy-bodies to butt out:)

Cheers.

You won't really know until he hits his growth spurt around high school. I was actually the tallest kid in my class until about 6th grade and I'm 5'4" now that I'm an adult. So just hang in there and put this particular problem out of your mind for now it's up to his body so worrying about it just makes you frazzled. Plus my 2 year 9 month old daughter is 36" and I've been told that she's tall so it sounds like he isn't all that small. Maybe it's the ratio to a 5'8" mom that makes him seem smaller to them ;)

Mom, he might just be a little slow getting started. My ex hubby was 4'11" and I'm 5'1". I was certain my child would be short. I had yearly physicals done and still do. My doctor finally told me that he'd be surprised if based on the information he had if my son was shorter than 6' when he reached his full height. Well my son is 17 now, and he's 6'1". Relax and just keep and eye on things. He'll get there. Probably won't get his biggest growth spurts til he's older. I'm mom to 3.

he's not short for his age people are just looking at how tall you are in comparison to him
for his age he isn't short!!
at 24 months the average height for boys is around 34 inches
if your concerned go see your doctor
he could go threw a growth spurt at any time and seem to grow inches over night!

My daughter was 33" at 18 months old, and was in the 95th percentile. I think your son will be just fine. He sounds tall to me. What does your doctor say?

Kids are short. He's got YEARS ahead of him to grow!

He's probably fine. Your baby will probably be somewhere between your height and your husband's. Kids all grow at different rates. If he's still 32 inches at age four, then you might have a bigger problem. Ask your pediatrician and explain your concerns to him/her.
