that he needs to be 16 at most places he has applies (likeTom Thumb and Walgreens). I remember getting my first job at 15. Can anyone suggest somewhere that would hire him considering he is so close and we are tired of him always asking for $$ to go out with friends and he needs to start saving for a car! I am going to go NUTS if I cannot get him out earning his keep around here. And please don't suggest mowing lawns because I cannot drive him around wth a mower that just will not work! Thanks!

pretty soon, in 6 mo., I'm going to be out on my own raising either my little brother/sister or 2 little brothers/sisters (it's a long story i think my moms lying to me about having twins. she hasn't been to the doctor, but just in case). i have a good paying job, and now i'm wondering how hard it will be to find a landlord who will take me seriously. I'm trying to get emancipated, so I'l be on my own with the kid(s). If you were a land lord, would you rent to me? and be honest.

My husband and I have been married for 6 years. My husbands son from his first marriage visits us every other weekend and for longer periods during vacations. I have two children and all of the children are close in age.
The problem? My children are very well behaved. (They are kids...dont get me wrong. They are not perfect. But My kids are 14 and 8, and I have yet to have a note home from school about their behavior and am asked often what I did to get such good children.) My stepson is the opposite. He lies, refuses to follow simple family rules and is constantly a problem. Its not just with us...his mother is at a loss and does not know how to handle him.
I just dont know what to do anymore. I am beginning to resent the time that he is here, because I know all of my time will be spent dealing with him and not enjoying the time we have with all of the kids.
Any helpful advice is welcome. Before you ask...we spend loads of quality time with the kids. He isnt after attention.

My husband and I are going to have to enroll our daughter in daycare in the fall however, the cost is out of control!! We live in CT and are trying to find a financial assistance program. One childcare facility in the state offers it but it is so far away from our home and work and in turn, it is almost not worth it. I cannot quit my job because my husband doesn't have health insurance through his work and we don't qualify for state health insurance. any insight? :)

At the BMX track. I was in the van watching my daughter go around on her brand new bike. 6 teenage boys were a few feet away in the skateboard area, and the one went on the track with my daughter and did some jumps. My daughter came to the van and started to cry. She was riding along and one of the teeangers said "BOO". She was very upset and self concious as it is her first big bike with 5 speeds! I got out and was very angry. I told the kids off and that it is a public park and that little kids need to learn to and that it NOT appropriate and they need to show respect. I was VERY angry. What would you have done?

I know this woman ( and no she it is not me lol) and she is 26 years old and lives with her parents, but the thing is that she leaves her 3 year old son home alone well she was doing it when he was 2 1/2 years old so she's been doing it for a while. Anyway she leaves him because she dosnt want to mess with getting him ready to go in the mornings when she has to work which is 5 days a week. Now, she mind you she is able to take her son to work with her she is a bus driver and all the moms are allowed to do this. She also has been reported as a known child abuser and she has been mean to my kids also and many other childeren that have ever been in her care! problem is child services wont remove this child from her custody because they have no proof!! she is very messy she cant even keep 1 tiny bedroom clean that her and her 3 year old share, she lives in filth. Is this normal parenting or is she a neglective and unfit mother? Should I be concerned or not?

And the 4 year old came up missing, do you think you would be in jail, or do you think you'd be shaking hands with the Pope?

Or am I missing something here? Did I just read the story wrong?

I am expecting my second child with my husband. We are so excited because we have tried for so long. My daughter is not his real child but does treat her as his so this is our first. My husband does have a son from his first marriage and he was born with a lot of problems. His son will be 5 this year, he was born with one of every organ that should have 2 all accept his lungs he has 1 1/2 and is on a breathing tube and will not eat solids. I think what he has is Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Now, no one else on my husbands side has ever had any problems like this...none of his siblings and none of his nieces and nephews or parents. So does this just happen or is it genetic? I love my step son and I will love my new baby very much no matter what...I mean I know it would scare any parent to find out that something is not right with there child. I do not want to say anything to my husband because I have already started to and he told me to shut up and not think like that...he said

so rude. lsn't this a forum for asking honest questions, and expressing opinions? I think the way some parents take offense shows that they are obviously insecure about something, perhaps their own poor parenting skills? Yes l have children, yes they have days where they play me up no end, and yes, l have the same wealth of experience as any other parent (possibly more than some). Why do people respond like this?

the attitude has got to go. She is arguing with everyone. She gets so angry that when in a fight with someone (our immediate family) that she does not love them. We don't know how to respond to this. It is getting so bad that noone wants to spend time with her. I have never spanked my kids but I am getting closer to it with her. I am on short term disability been home for the last 2 months and getting ready to go back to work next week. I am looking forward to it so I don't have to spend as much time with her. How aful is that. Please give your advice. How can I make things better with her.

I am 25 years old & have dreamed all my life of someday being a Loving wife and mom. I finally found a very sweet man who Loves me very much & wants me to be his wife.
I have no children yet but he has 3 from a previous marriage ages 15,11 and 3. I Love the kids with all my heart & they Love me too. My fiance is 39 & does not have a good relationship with his x wife who he was married to for 15 years. They BOTH are in my opinion horrible parents. They don't hit the children but emotionally & even physically neglect them.
Examples:
-Letting the 3 year old stay up until 11:00pm+ with no structured bedtime & letting her sleep until when ever she wakes up-11am+.
- Giving the 3 year old soda in her slippy cup & feeding her chips & other food with little to no nutritional value FOR MEALS
- Using foul language in front of them & putting them in the middle of arguments they are having.
This behavior is not ok with me & I have told him how i feel but when im not there I KNOW it continues

He has NO sense of responsibility AT ALL. He came home with a D in English last week and hadn't turned in 4 EASY assignments (complete 0's) and blamed my husband because he said he "didn't have anything to read to do the assignment on" but had never even asked to go to the library or said he needed a book. We ask EVERY day if he has assignments, he says "no" and plays on his computer all night. He was put on a week's restriction from all electronics and every single day he came home yelling and screaming that he didn't understand why we cared if he got good grades- he's FINE with a loser job and no education. He seriously doesn't care about a damn thing. Even though we VERY routinely tell him the consequences of his actions (backtalking, doing rotten things to his sister, running around in a store like a 3 year old), he still does them, gets in trouble, and has the nerve to throw a tantrum (screaming, stomping) wherever we are! He lies, manipulates, screams- please help.

My daughter is 12.5 years old and started getting her periods last year. When that time of the month roles around, she is incredible difficult to control with temper tantrums, crying, screaming, fighting with her younger brother and step-father etc. She still doesn't have a regular cycle so we can't really prepare for these outbursts until we're in the middle of one. My question is should I try putting her on birth control to try and even out her cycle and have time to prepare and maybe curb the PMS symptoms, or is there something else I could try? Each month I feel like I'm in the middle of war zone. Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My daughter (5 years old) has just revealed to me that when she goes to have summer visitation with her father, that her step-grandfather is making her do alot of sexual stuff to him...i will spare you the details, but trust me, some of the things she has told me are things that grown married couples have not done. I took her to see a therapist and she has another appointment tomorrow, the therapist is reporting it to the proper people. I just don't know how to deal with what she is telling me! She asked me today will her doctor help her "get it out of her eyes when she goes to bed at night", meaning i suppose that she can't stop thinking about it when she goes to bed. She tells me something new about it everyday so far and I just don't know how to keep from killing this guy! I am so sick over it that I can't hardley even kiss my husband because all i can think about is what has happend to my child. HELP!!!! Any advice is welcome!

My son, Matt, has been drinking since he was 16 and I would like him to be sober again. He's not talking to me about it because he would say that I am not always around. And he's also failing in school. I don't even know who his friends are. He needs help and I don't know how I can help him if he keeps pushing me away. Please tell me how I can convince him to get alcohol rehab.

There must be a thousand kids out there hating piano...

My son has been playing piano for more than 4 years. He is getting rather good. He passed level 6 exam a while ago.

Here's the problem--he hates it, or at least acts that way. I doubt any pre-teen is crazy about practicing piano, but he gives such sour face and sarcastic remarks they give me a headache.

My reason to stick with this while spending hard-earned $? I consider it a discipline that builds character. Every kid needs to do SOMETHING he or she doesn't like. Let me rephrase that--no kid can possibly JUST choose to do all things he or she likes. If life were that way he would just be playing video games. We do not force him to go to cram school, play any other instrument. I do not plan to live on $ he someday makes from playing.

I quit piano when I was in middle school. I hated it. Today I regret.

Is it worth the fuss...

I just dont understand. I am a 19 year old boy from NY. And as I think I am aware, people who do not have children often have:
1. more money
2. more time
3. more relaxation
4. more time alone or with marrege partner
5. no overwheling responsibiltys
6. not having inconvenced by the babys or coinstastant hard work to raise them
and a lot more. So why?

I've had my first baby and she is only a month old. She is waking up every 2 hours or so! When I told my in-laws about her sleeping hapits, they told me to let her cry for 20-30 minutes and tire herself out!!! I could never do that! It hurts my heart to hear her crying because I know she needs me!!! I know there are many people who let their babies cry sometimes when they wake up, but I want to know what everyone thinks.
