My husband and I are going to have to enroll our daughter in daycare in the fall however, the cost is out of control!! We live in CT and are trying to find a financial assistance program. One childcare facility in the state offers it but it is so far away from our home and work and in turn, it is almost not worth it. I cannot quit my job because my husband doesn't have health insurance through his work and we don't qualify for state health insurance. any insight? :)

Try Family Services, most states have an assistance program that can help with childcare even if you can't/don't qualify for food stamps or health care. We have three boys (almost, 35 weeks with #3) and at this point, its cheaper for me NOT to work! Try Family Services and they may be able to get you headed in the right direction.

I doubt any of us can really answer your question without knowing what state you're in. They all work differently with things like that. Go to your government's website (www.(yourstate).gov) and search around. If you live in Kentucky or Indiana, I could probably help you. I've become proficient at navigating their .gov sites. If you can't find anything there, or if you don't qualify for state assistance, shop around for childcare. Don't be suprised if you don't qualify for state assistance. In Indiana, at least, you had to be making BARELY above minimum wage to qualify. My boyfriend and I had this problem. We couldn't afford childcare for the summer for his son. SO, my boyfriend is paying $40/week for his son to be in the YMCA childcare program that's open from 7am-6pm because of his income. Normally, parents pay over $100 per kid for one week!! They go on field trips and swim off-site every Thursday! Meals are included! All he had to do was fill out a form for the 'Spirit Program' and we got that discount. It saved our butts, really. Maybe there's a YMCA in your area. The ones here offer childcare year round for younger kids like yours. If there's not a YMCA around you, make a list of all the childcare places you can find. There's bound to be one that will work with you.
