My son is 3 1/2 & very smart. He is also very defiant & 'spits' at people when they say something he doesnt like.he cant really spit so he tries & makes a BBBBZZZZ sound that is irrelevant, its his intention. He also just stomps his foot & says NO..I AM NOT DOING THAT! &folds his arms across his chest he tells us he hates or or slams the door in your face.I don't spank him unless he does something dangerous lI don't want to spank him or I'd be doing it 20 times some days ! I don't know if time outs really work, he says he is sorry when he comes out but I am not really sure that he even understands why he is in there. I know he doesnt sit & think about what he did wrong because all he does is cry for daddy while hes in there hoping my husband will let him out. What do you do with a kid like this? He is a sweet kid, he is very nice with other kids & plays nice doesnt hit or call names and tries to share. He tells you he loves you and LOVES hugs and kisses. He is just very strong willed!

Some people seem to think it's their God-given right to let their kids run around screaming and carry on, and then do the same thing right back to them, and then say to anyone who disapproves, "who gives you the right to judge", etc etc. Other parents can manage, why can't they? Don't you think bad parents should stop making excuses and receiving so much 'support' when what they really need is a kick up the backside?

Everywhere you turn someone has an add kid, or they can't go near food, or grass, or dogs, or fresh air. It's pathetic, what's going on?

I see people say this all of the time. And, I don't really know what they mean by this. I've got kids and haven't had the police even so much as check in with me regarding what methods I'm using to teach my children to behave properly in this world.

I have a step-daughter that comes to visit her father and I every summer. She will be 12 in August. We get along really great, but when it comes to her taking a shower it is a real battle. It is an argument every day when trying to get her to shower or brush her teeth. I just don't know what to do. It does not matter if her dad tells her or if I do. I would love some suggestions on how to make it easier. Thanks :-)

It never ceases to shock me, how in this day and age of child predators being at an all time high, that I continuously see mothers plastering photos of their children all over their web pages, blogs, dating profiles, etc.

This wouldn't bother me so much if mothers put their kids' pictures in private albums, where only someone with a password or personal invitation could view them. But nope... most of the time, moms just slap their kids pictures all over anyplace on the internet. Another odd aspect of this phenomenon is that mom will put up maybe only one or two photos of herself, and twenty photos of her kids! What is up with that? "Mom," especially if you're on a dating site, the members are there to see YOU, not your children. Yes, we get that you are a package deal. You don't have to put up two dozen photos of your child to get that point across to us.

What is wrong with these women? What in the world are they hoping to accomplish by showing the entire world their kid(s)?

So let me understand this time out thing completely.

My kids are running around yelling, screaming, breaking things, fighting and completely ignoring my wife and I and driving us insane, so in order to punish them we tell them to go to time out and basicaly catch their breath before starting all over again?
Why does this not seem to make any sense?
What do you do in these situations?

Millennials are a good generation. There have been some very involved parents. But how far is too far? Do you describe yourself as a helicopter parent? In what ways? If you are not a helicopter parent, what are your thoughts on helicopter parenting? Do you have experience with this type of parent?

I think so - just as it is in scotland!
I recently petitioned my MP asking him to support a Manifesto being put to parliament in which it would make it easier for women to breastfeed in public and once they returned to work. This is really important as many women stop breastfeeding much earlier than they would like as they feel they are unsupported. Many women are being asked to feed their babies in toilets rather than in public and this has to stop.
My MP refused to put his name to the manifesto. He believes a voluntary code would work better – unfortunately this has been the case for some time already and it just isn’t working. I am taking this matter further in the hope of getting more support for this manifesto.
I need you to go to digg.com and register your support. All you have to do is go here: http://digg.com/political_opinion/MP_s_Attitude_to_Breastfeeding_Manifesto/ and press ‘Digg it’ under the number on the right. If you do not have an account then it takes just seconds!

My son, who is 8, has been staying with my parents for the past two years. When I force him to come home, he cries, won't sleep, and I end up letting him go back there. I have never been neglectful of my son; I am a good parent. (I also have a 4-year-old daughter who is an absolute angel.) Part of my son's problem rests in his initial upbringing. His father was an abusive alcoholic, and I got out of that situation. Regardless of what I told the courts during our custody battle when he was 3, his dad still sees him regularly. Also, my son has some developmental disablilities, like ADHD and other behavior problems. I am married, and my son hates my husband. Every time he's home, he says that he wants me to get a divorce and get back with his dad, and he says it in front of my husband. My son requires someone to be with him at school, and my mom goes every day, since she is a homemaker. I work full-time, I'm in school, and I have another child, so I don't have time to do this.

My daughter has been free of headlice for 5 years and having experienced them once, I always check her hair as soon as she scratches her head. Yesterday I checked and found headlice. I asked her if she knew of anyone else in the class who had them and she said there is a girl in the class on whom the other children have actually seen the lice crawling. When they asked her about it, her reply was, "Yes I know but my mum doesn't do anything about it". I have mentioned it to other parents and they have all said they have suspicions that this girl is infecting and reinfecting everyone else.

Now I spent an hour combing my daughter's hair last night and will do so every day this week and every other day for the next 2 weeks to get rid of them but I don't want her reinfected by this other girl whose mother obviously doesn't bother.

I want to call this mum and ask her to take some action for the sake of the rest of us and her own daughter.

How do I do this tactfully?

OK, this is the last step for me before I enroll all of us in some good ol' family counseling - I would deeply appreciate any suggestions on this! We have 3 children that we have adopted through the foster system (all under the age of 8). I am struggling for many reasons (disobedience, etc.) but the primary one is that I don't trust two of my children. I realize they came from quacky backgrounds and some of their actions are understandable, but how do we function in a family unit without trust? It seems like everytime we turn around we (or grandparents or teachers) are being lied to and manipulated by them. We are always on our toes, and have now become accusatory, too. How can we build the trust in our family? Thanks for you suggestions!
