Actually, I would give him an "attaboy"! I am a professional swordfighter and sword instructor (doing demos at renaissance faires, schools and scouting groups) and since I plan on teaching him to use one when he gets about 6 or 7, I wouldn't be concerned in the least bit.

First of all, you must be very quiet. An alarmed shout could cause the child to whip it around and do injury to himself or you. Quietly tell the child to give you the sword, then put the ***** thing in a secure place where he can't get to it again.

This one is EASY!!! Get them involved with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA.ORG) This is an organization that teaches how to use a sword by reliving the medieval ages. It is world wide and has meeting locations everywhere. I am a 17 year member and brought my kids up in it. If you want them to have good manners and believe in Honor and Chivelery become a member.

I would put my arms up slowly so to not cause any sudden movements and speak gently. Depending on the child's age I would cajole him into putting the sword on the ground and step away slowly. I would put this into the form of like a fun game, like a challenge. It would really depend on the child's age and his/her obedience.

Depends on age of child and what he was doing. Shadow fighting in the backyard is a lot different than swinging it around a park. I would probably take it from him and tell him there are better and safer things to play with it.

Take it away and give him/her something that LOOKED like the sword so they'd be happy and wouldn't chop someone's head off.

I would swap it for a fire hose and pretend to put out a big fire. Then I would get him/her to rescue animals and people.
