When he moved in with us at age 12 we made it clear that driving is a privilege. He must maintain a 3.0 gpa to drive. Last summer his mom bought him a car and it's been a long year. His grades have been mediocre but he always has an excuse or a note from a teacher so his dad gives in. We've been to counseling and it helped and seemed to motivate him for a while (he got a 3.0gpa) but things are back to the way they were. This progress report he has earned a 2.0.He graduates from h.s. in 3 months. When he has his car life is good. When he doesn't, he makes sure life sucks for everyone at home.He sulks, complains and seldom ventures out of his bedroom.
Since he'll be moving back to mom's in June (where he's never been told "no"), I'm ready to just give him his way.I've tried to be consistent but since I'm "only" a stepmom I doubt I've had any effect on his behavior and the counselor says I need to butt out.I'm trying to choose my battles.Should I shut up and give in?It's so tempting!

My friend has taken her children away from her father. She says he is doing drugs but has no actual proof of this. Is it legal for her to do this and if not how can it be fixed??

My ex and I have seperated. He has moved on with his life. I have recently found out that I am pregnant with his child. I know that he does not want children. I suspect that his reaction would be "abortion." I desperately want this child - I have wanted motherhood for a long time now. Up to this point I have said nothing to him. How do I tell him? Should I tell him?

I am thinking of doing some babysitting in my home. What are some things that I need to have set up for this? What would be good hours to set and how do I keep from being burnt by people who may not pay? What's a good rate to ask for? Should I base it on the child's age? Should I charge by the hour or by the day? Any help from anyone who has experience with this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Would you let your 14 year old daught spend the night at a boy's house after a party if everyone invited to the party was invited to spend the night? Other girls would be there too as well as parents. The invitation even included a permission slip reading NO PERMISSION SLIP NO PARTY//no alcohol or drugs...if found they would be kicked out

I just spanked my 11 yr old daughter for beating her little sister who is 6. This is the first time I do it and she's had several warnings. I tried to avoid it and even took her to therapy; nothing worked. I can't just stand here and let my 6 yr old get hit. Why am I feeling so guilty? Am I wrong for spanking her?
I spanked her twice on her behind.
By the way, therapy has made her more aggressive and rude.

I've just moved in with my sister after her husband left - I'm the nanny now. I came bringing a harder level of discipline / tougher requirements on bahavior and the 8 yr old is bucking against it and I feel like an evil step-parent. She really gets under my skin. I've been there 8 months now and it isn't getting better. I find that sometimes I have difficulty not reverting to elementary tactics of bickering with her. Any advice on how to get this relationship working better?

I was trying to protect my son who is 4 yrs old by not telling anyone who his father was because his dad was my first bf to everything else and we were broken up when my son was made plus he had a new gf at the time.I was 19 yrs old was embarrassed/scared and did not want my child coming into the world with that kind of drama. My parents also hated my ex.bf guts and I made the choice to allow my parents to do most of my child raising for the first 3 yrs of his life while i was away at college.I met my hubby at college dated him for 2.5 yrs before getting married and have been married for 4 months. While at wedding run-through for one of my hubbys old friends from high school the groom turned out to be my sons bio-dad.It was a shock for me but i told this private info to my hubby who got angry.During a pre-wedding dinner my hubby got drunk and during a fight with me outside his friends mom heard everything .How can i tell him?

I have a five year old son... who up until recently has been very well behaved... however the last few months he's driving me crazy.... everything i say he sys the opposite, he has an aswer for everything and doesnt seem to understand when he's being cheeky. In comparison with alot of his school friends he's an angel but I'm a full time working single mum and I'm worried that if I dont stop this behaviour now it will get out of my control. I know its normal behaviour for a 5 year old but all the SuperNanny style techniques takes hours of time that I just dont have... lets face it sometimes theres no time for 'naughty step' when we have to be in school in ten minutes and I have to get to work.
Does anyone have any advice or just some comforting words for a super busy single mum coping with a five year old!

I mean as far as spanking is concerned. I gave my siblings and my parents full permission to discipline my future children when they are in their care.

So what do you think of the article ?
Dr Sami Timimi, a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist in Lincolnshire, says there is a real danger that the diagnosis is becoming a dumping ground for simple bad behaviour.
My eldest son was diagnoised with ADHD and believe u me u know when your child has it .... lucky for me he has outgrown the condition, altho i do see glimpses of it now and then... Personally i think it is a label that is overused too often there is a huge difference between a naughty child and a child with ADHD ... some parents don't help either they are too quick to label their child , claim benefits and buy booze and drugs with it ... sorry to be harsh but we all know its true ... I used to sit in my sons classroom with him so he wouldn't be a distraction to the rest of the class and the teacher... It all helps... But what do u all think ?

Is it normal to feel more worried and have more anxiety after having a child? Like, to finally realize that you're not going to live forever, and while it may not have seemed so bad when it was just you, but now that you have someone else depending on you for everything it becomes kind of scary.
